In the midst of peeling a bad paint job off my 55. My kids have been using a screwdriver to get an edge and peeling. They’ve taken quite a bit off. Any ideas on what might be helpful? Putting the 55 out in the sun to heat the paint??? Any chemicals?? We’d like to preserve whatever patina there might be.

Cheers,
Mike

I have been using citristrip from home depo. Leave on til it bubbles up then bondo plastic blade and metal scraper and the top paint is coming off. Just need to get the primer off that’s above the orig paint and see how it looks.

Good stuff. I’ve never tried it as an automotive solution. I use it exclusively to redo wood stocks. Looks like you’ve had good results.!!

Used 3 bottles of citristrip on my rig. 👍

A power washer (pressure washer) might remove the most poorly adhered paint.

My sister's first husband was a pig farmer. I washed pens for him once in a while as a teenager. The pressure washer they had in the barn was some ridiculous high pressure, and above boiling hot for sterilization. He used a tip that was just a single narrow stream and it spun from the pressure making a cone shaped pattern.

That psycho pressure washer would remove anything not supremely well bonded.
