Looking for the part numbers for the compressor, receiver/dryer, evaporator and anything else that is a common service item. Greg already listed for the condensor. I'm doing this for my friend who is having his HDJ81 serviced shortly. His truck is a 1990 VX limited, same as mine. Thanks for any help.

Bump on this post. I need to have my evaporator replaced. PO used an aftermarket/replacement evap coil. It has leaked twice before and we just aluminim welded the small leak. Now its broke again. Am now planning on getting the OEM evaporator.
Can those with EPC provide the part number for a 1990 HDJ81 evaporator coil - see pic below?

Please include also part number for the AC Drier.

Also, the OEM evaporator is made by NipponDenso, right? Anybody got the corresponding NipponDenso part number? I may be able to get some savings if I order the evap directly from Denso instead of the Toyota dealer.

I did a search already for "evaporator" on both the 80's/Diesel section and did not find the part number,

Japan4x4,

Thanks for the quick response. I called local Toyota dealer and said that 88501-60020 is not available anymore. But instead 88501-60030 is the one available and can still be ordered.

Same thing with 88471-16040. Available and orderable is 88471-16050.

Should be ok, right? Or there are major technical differences between the two?

just uppin this old thread in case it might help someone else. i called the local dealer for 88471-16040 AC drier and was told that it fit corollas, landcruiser, 4 runner, mr2 in the late 80's to early 90's year.

hi I thought i would share some knowledge here on what i have done to refresh my AC system.

I was able to cross reference my ac parts with denso on there website
http://densoautoparts.com/find-my-part/cross-reference

I also picked up a 2002 kia sportage ac compressor which was a direct fit in my hdj81 pre filled with oil and comes with ac clutch and pulley. (ebay find)

Comp type- 10PA15C. 1 groove

and here is what I ended up ordering from rockauto

Heat & Air Conditioning : A/C Expansion Valve
DENSO Part # 4750103 {#8851560010, 8851587003, 8851595700}

Heat & Air Conditioning : A/C Expansion Valve
DENSO Part # 4750107

Heat & Air Conditioning : A/C Receiver Drier / Accumulator
DENSO Part # 4780107

Good info!! So this was all just bolt on plug and play? No additional changes, mods or fab required? Final result I assume was all good? Any chance you could add prices to your post? Thanks

all parts were same as original no modifications needed.

ac compressor (remanufactured) was under $200 found on ebay.
prices change all the time when I bough mine i found rockauto to have the best price.
now that you have the part numbers you can shop around more easy.

Does anyone know if a Denso A/C condenser pn; 477-0122, is compatible with a HDJ81(right hand drive)?
I can't find the info. even on the DENSO compatibility page!

Sorry for the double post. I did find out that A/C Condenser part 477-0122 is NOT compatible with a HDJ81 , right hand drive.
Hope that saves someone a headache.

How is it not compatible? The original part # 88460-60060 is the same for HDJ81 and NA models...

Just installed Denso A/C Condenser 477-0122 into my HDJ81. Direct fit! However it DOES NOT come with o-rings so you will have to buy those separate.

My old one was like swiss cheese:

Resurrecting this old thread.

Has anyone been able to confirm if the Evaporator coil 88501-60030(Denso P/N: 476-0062)
is compatible with older discontinued part number 88501-60020? I just pulled mine out of my 1990 HDj81 and it looks like it has a good leak or two.

Looking at pictures of the 88501-60030 seems to point that they may be the same part.

Um, isn't yours an HDJ-80? Mine's a '91, and it is an HDJ-80 VX European spec. As for those part numbers, can any of those parts work with R-134A? I am thinking of converting my system to that, and wonder where to begin.

Like @veiloctane posted earlier in this thread, I am providing the following part numbers in the hopes it helps out fellow HDJ81 owners, as it has been quite the task to figure out A/C part numbers. For the record, I have a 1991 HDJ81 (RHD) with a single A/C (no center fridge!) that is R-12 based. I've decided to stick with R-12 and not convert.

I have ordered the following parts because our compressor died and upon having a leak detection the system had two small leaks, one near the suction hose at the metal crimp fitting near the compressor, and the other on a fitting attached to the condenser. I have included prices (USD) as well for additional help.

Denso 471-1433 A/C Compressor ($211.79)
Denso 475-0107 A/C Expansion Valve (located in the cab near the evaporator core below the glove compartment) ($23.79)
Denso 478-0107 A/C Receiver Drier/Accumulator ($11.24)
Denso 477-0122 A/C Condenser ($149.79)
Denso 476-0062 A/C Evaporator Core ($111.89) (Update 7/19: This Denso Evaporator does NOT fit a 1991 HDJ81...the tube connection of the evaporator with the expansion valve is different and will NOT fit)
Toyota 88712-60130 Hose, Cooler Refrigerant Suction, No.1 Toyota ($219.28)

I will post back with additional info once I get the parts and get them installed and the system recharged. Thanks!!

Definitely curious about the Evaporator Core. I just took mine to a rad shop that will hopefully be able to repair the leak(s).

Quick update folks...on various IH8MUD threads some folks state that 88501-60020 (A/C Evaporator for a 1991 HDJ81) is replaced with 88501-60030. However, if you go online and use 88501-60030 and use the interchange part number for a Denso (the OEM for this part) evaporator unit, it gives Denso 476-0062.

So, I ordered a Denso 476-0062 from Rock Auto recently and found out the hard way that the 88501-60030 (aka Denso 476-0062) is NOT compatible with a 1991 HDJ81 setup! The overall dimensions of the two evaporator coils look almost identical, but the tube connection with the expansion valve is not the same and therefore this Denso 476-0062 cannot be used in a 1991 HDJ81...argh! I have updated my post earlier in this thread to hopefully help other folks out!

Will let you all know how the other parts work out...should be getting our HDJ81 back from the shop with a fixed A/C (compressor fried and two leaks in the system).

So I'm happy to report that the A/C work was completed this past week and the A/C works well (just in time for 100+ deg. F heat!). For those that are wondering, I have a 1991 HDJ81 with the 1HD-T with a single A/C expansion valve (i.e. NO CENTER CONSOLE FRIDGE) system (no rear A/C) that was, and still is, using R-12 for the refrigerant. I had the work done by a local mechanic at a place that can still handle R-12 (a lot of mechanics no longer have the proper equipment/training for doing R-12 properly).

Below are some notes on parts that were replaced to help others with an HDJ81 similar to ours (the prices are in USD from Rock Auto, unless otherwise noted):

Denso 471-1433 A/C Compressor ($211.79)
Denso 475-0107 A/C Expansion Valve (located in the cab near the evaporator core below the glove compartment) ($23.79)
Denso 478-0107 A/C Receiver Drier/Accumulator ($11.24)
Denso 477-0122 A/C Condenser ($149.79)
Denso 476-0062 A/C Evaporator Core ($111.89) (Update 7/19: This Denso Evaporator does NOT fit a 1991 HDJ81...the tube connection of the evaporator with the expansion valve is different and will NOT fit). I have returned this to Rock Auto for a refund.
Suction Hose: Repaired at our local NAPA (the suction hose had a small leak where the rubber meets the metal near the compressor) for $15.11. The repair involved removing the old metal crimp and putting a new metal crimp on.

I also replaced the A/C compressor belt 99332-11260, replaced by 99332-11260-78 in the parts catalog, which was purchased from ToyotaPartsDeal.com for $11.05. I also had the alternator belt set replaced while the A/C compressor belt was off. The alternator belt set is 90916-02452 and purchased for $35.46 from ToyotaPartsDeal.com as well. Both belts work great and are OEM.

Hope this helps other folks dealing with an R-12 A/C system in an early 90's HDJ81!
