Can a regular c-clip be used in place of the "C washer". These hold the brake shoes to the assembly. I mangled mine pretty good and stock style is not readily available. '76 FJ40.
 
as long as you find a part that does the job i don't see why not... but others may have a different veiw, if it seems "shaky" don't do it. its not best to skimp out on the braking system
 
They're different from a garden variety c-clip. These are still available at the dealer, but if you're doing a Sunday afternoon parking brake project, that's no comfort. . . .
There are two sizes, so get your mfg date if you know it - if it's a T/C transplant, then measure . . .
