what reputable person would steal my idea and market this? if you want to make your own, go for it.

If this was the minitruck market I would be concerned. However I think most vendors in this market in the US has a little more integrity that to copy this. The first time I saw this I thought, that is really cool. Would we ever copy something like that, no, the bad karma that would come with it would not be worth the profit on a very limited run.

That is not to say that things are not copied in this market. Hell, we started doing tire carriers with spring loaded safety pins first and now everyone is doing that, including even the Jeep people. Trying to patent something like that would be very difficult and cost effective. The market is just to small to worry about stuff like that.

Hell, I should have patented sliders on 80 series, then I could have retired by now.

I always thought the community supports sharing and championing good ideas, not stealing them for profit. Maybe i'm off on this but hearing that, I'm glad this is my hobby and not my living.

I think you are right about that to a degree, but as the market expands and more and more people get into it, the loyalty changes. Look at the mini truck market and the pissing matches in that. It is the natural progression. If this was your job, I am sure you would have had them out by now :D

I'm still going to do my best and so is Hanna, to make something worth having- innovative and quality on par w/ the truck.

I think it is cool and Ken will do your original design justice.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the different viewpoints and experienced perspectives.

The idea itself is unique and simple but the hard part is really the bracket. It is tricky to make something bolt on. I could half ass it w/ welding to stock brackets but that just isn't something I would like to sell. To make 1 is simple- to make 20 or 50, etc is an entirely different animal.
That is what makes this a very different hurdle on the 80 series.

I know what you mean about patenting- and I also the freedom of info on Mud that kind of helps all owners. That free flow of info is what helps everything move forward, so I wanted to contribute to that as well. Not for someone to "ripoff" but maybe think about things differently and spawn more ideas..

Christo, you are right if this was my fulltime job it would be done. Work gets in the way of fun :) it is rewarding to see interest in something I designed and it's also really exciting to see ideas grow w/ someone like Ken too. That is just as fun for me.
We are envisioning an entire cargo drawer system - but I also understand the appeal of the minimal carriers like the prototype.

I would be happy to prototype and thrash on a few of these in the SE for ya. :)

I posted up in the interest thread as well because this is a great product and I for one can't wait for the ability to order. :)

FirstToy, just wondering how hard it would be to make these attach to the seat bracket? Like the way the seats themselves attach to the brackets, possibly locking into the same latch point. Just thinkin' trying to help get these things into production. I know you've probably already tried or thought of this, but just seeing if I could help. Keep up the good work, and keep the great ideas coming!!!

Instead of having a pissing match with other forum members about who buys the cheapest crap, and who talks themselves up the most... The three of you are losers, grow up. Who cares if someone calls your opinion into question? You're only mad because you are all too similar, in annoying ways. Flame me if you want, I DON'T CARE!

so any idea when these might be produced? i had gotten an email from Ken saying christmas 08, we're in 09 now.
