LOL, nobody pointed out the LX450 interior pic I posted by mistake.

(It’s being decladed & painted back East... and getting a 1HD-FTE, upgraded turbo/exhaust, H151F 5-speed, p/t conversion, locking axles, a new interior (carpet, 1st & 2nd row leather, new seat foams, dynamat everywhere), and 42 gallon aux tank.

Nice... Is that the 1HD_FTE with the intercooler? Always wondered if we can get those in the states.

I WISH it were my shop. Looks like the pic Frank sent me the other month; it’s going to be an exciting conversion.

I’m currently sprucing up a 1HDFT to put in my 79 series project. I got new stock OEM injectors and I’m using a stock flow MMP FTE turbo. I’m kind of tempted to think about turning up the fuel a little bit, and I’m wondering if you are going to tune your FTE at all. I plan on squeezing a front mount intercooler into the pickup- maybe a PDI if they can make something for a wide nose 79 with a 1HDFT.

Wondering what you’re doing for airbox, intercooler, turbo, and fuel plans. That’s what kind of details I’m talking about, if you care to share.

the lx450 is in Va, but will be coming back to ATX in June. The 62 is here in ATX.

PDI intercooler & airbox (keeping the snorkel I have)
GTurbo “red wheel” turbo & injectors (they come in the kit, as does a “pre-tuned” PDI module)
3” stainless exhaust.

I’m not planning a pump rebuild right now. I am cleaning & repainting the 1HD-FTE, replacing all the gaskets (maybe not the head gasket), etc.

25 gal factory tank and 42 gallon aux tank
With a 5 gallon reserve, if I can get 16.5 mpg, that’s 1,000 mile of range. At 18mpg it’s over 1,100 miles.

I have two goals for the truck: daily driver (it was my DD prior to this), and I think air travel is largely “over” for a couple years (at least, assuming the airlines survive), and I want to be able to travel to / from Oklahoma, Colorado and Utah. See family, do some fishing & hiking. Might pick up ham radio again, IDK.

I’ve never seen Mt. Rushmore, and it’s been decades since I’ve been through Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

I’m thinking about rooftop tents, but I think I’ll see how it works with a ground tent first. I’ve not thought much about drawers. Never really liked the idea before.

New gasket kit for the 1HD-FTE, basically everything except the head gasket. Timing belt replaced. Hand washing the engine before painting it.
