My '98 has been having intermittent issues where it suddenly looses power on the highway (feels like I take my foot off the pedal and occurs more often in cold weather). From my searches, it looks like a TPS/APPS issue - last week it finally triggered a CEL w/ a P1121 code.

APPS right? Or can that code also be triggered with a TPS failure?

Thanks - just want to make sure I order the right part (figures it's the expensive one!)

i had the same problem with my '98 over a year ago, CEL P1121 CODE(APPS). i changed the APPS and solved the problem!!!

I've had the same code before, and it ended up being the TPS.
But what your describing sounds like the APPS. I had that go out just recently too and it did exactly what you described. I didn't wait until threw a code, I just replaced the part.

Did you read the FAQ ?

I haven't replaced anything and have only had three brief occurrences tens of thousands of miles apart.

Many who replaced only the TPS later experienced problems and replaced the APPS as well.

Most people who replaced the APPS have no further problems.

Those who replace the whole Throttle Body like the dealers recommend have very few performance complaints but a lot less money.

Calling CDAN today - ordering an APPS today.

Thanks

That part is real easy to install too. I noticed a bit more slack in my throttle cable that I adjusted out. Wondering if they all have that much slack.
Let us know how it goes.

Side note - CDan was almost $100 cheaper than local dealer - great guy.....

I'll post back w/ the results, APPS should be here by Tues.

Update:

New APPS completely solved the issue - truck even seems more responsive at light throttle than before.

Install was easy 25 minutes at a relaxed pace....

Just curious, how do you know it "completely solved the issue?" The problem to begin with was intermittent, so how long has the new APPS been installed without a check engine light?

I've also been getting a P1121 intermittently (every 6 months or so) but now is getting more frequent, so I'm thinking it's time for the APPS or TPS. Just got to figure out which one; there seems to be many different opinions....I'll keep searching.

It was intermittent, but when temps were <50 or so, I would almost always feel some drop off in power when cruising within 10 mins of a cold start - without throwing a code.

I've had the new APPS in for about a week and it hasn't shown ANY signs of the old behavior. It may be my imagination, but when towing my dirt bikes last weekend, it just seemed more responsive. Trans also shifts better at light throttle, probably because it isn't getting erratic signals....

Even my wife felt the difference :)
