I found that fuel cap was loose after CEL turned ON. This was immediately next day after a pit stop to refuel. I tightened the cap and then went about with my business and drove for 60 miles with 3-5 engine on/off cycles, but the CEL has persisted. This morning Autozone provided the code as P0455 and said mostly I need to replace the cap. On my way back, I refueled (just 3-4 gallons) and made sure the cap is tight, however the light remains ON. How long does it take to auto reset? Is there some fixed drives that need to complete? I do not have a diagnostic tool to reset. BTW, I also ordered a new OEM cap. I hope it does not need replacement of other complicated stuff like canister, valves etc.

Thanks

Just an update- the code cleared itself after 150 miles of driving with half tank of gas remaining. Based on internet reading, at a high level, the evap tests run only when the gas level is between 3/4 and 1/4 and needs specific driving cycles that meets its criteria for a evap test to run. I think there are few test runs that need to pass before it turns off the CEL.

I had all of my dash lights come on one morning a few months ago. I figured it was something non-catastrophic, contrary to all of the lights, and it was gas cap related. In my case I figured it was an old cap because I noticed the lack of a strong click when tightening it. Once I replaced it, the codes cleared but they did come on randomly at some point after the next fill up. I ignored it and it went away shortly after, never to be seen again. To me it seems like it can throw a bit of a temper tantrum but it will calm down eventually.
