You have to decode the correct coordinate...one of them is correct now figure out where it hits the trail

Jk I had a copy error I corrected it above

Better. That is real close to the spot I posted.

Ok, we'll aim for this spot unless Pappy finds something else in his scouting mission. Thanks Steve.

10-4. I'm hoping to get there in daylight. I'll text or inReach when I get there.

Update 1530 hrs

Pappy is having Alternator issues and is heading back home now. He's hoping to grab another one in ABQ, swap it out and maybe head out tonight if it isn't too late. Otherwise, he'll depart ABQ tomorrow a.m. Larry, you may have Pappy join you if you end up arriving to ABQ late today from Seattle!

Anyway, I'll keep an ear out on the megalink and HDC_2.

We're departing before 4pm and will be heading east on I-40 then south through Estancia and all that area. We'll just putt putt to the destination tonight and grab food on the road someplace.

Doh! Better in ABQ than anywhere else. I tried finding a brake MC in Ruidoso with no luck while on the BDR...

In Mescalaro. 80ish miles so far. Napa had my alternator. New, not reman. 70 amp.

yeah and let's forget the motel 6 parking lot in carlsbad.
That was the most entertained the Motel 6 staff has ever been!

did Pappy mention that I drove by and spotted him on the side of the road(hwy 380)? I was headed out for an antelope hunt and came across him. we chatted while he buttoned up for the return trip for a new alt. glad you got back out there!

We parted ways with Pappy on hwy 59, about 17 miles due East of Beaverhead Station, Google Maps

We'll have to return to this location and pick it back up next time and see how far we get. All in all, it was a great time. and the weather was very cooperative. We started out at the spot that Steve suggested and it was a great spot to meet up. Pappy and Larry showed up around midnight Thur night. The next few days we covered as much ground as we wanted to without any agenda. The landscape around southern NM is nothing short of amazing.

Hopefully the fellas took some good landscape pics as I don't seem to have much, only camp pics!

This was Pappy's first experience camping with me and Larry. While he travels super efficiently and is able to pack up his camp quickly. We, on the other hand, have yard sales wherever we stop for the night. Pappy spent more time watching us spread out then clean up, poor guy. :bang:

Those of you who aren't familiar with Google Offline maps, please get familiar with that feature. You can watch a YouTube video on how to download the part of the state where you'll be traveling w/o cell signal. This is crucial to finding camping spots when you only have Long/Lat coordinates.

We ran into a couple in a Taco from AL who were also doing the NMBDR. They picked it back up near Carizzozo and were playing leap frog with us for a while.

First night camping. This is the spot that Steve suggested and it was an awesome spot. Thank you again.

Second night - not too far from Ruidoso, really close to Bonita Lake. Bonita lake was drained and there were construction equipment on the lake bed. There was a fire in this area not too long ago. Somewhere around 3am a F150 showed up to our site and the occupants left to go on a hike. We think they might've been hunters, not sure. It was raining so we didn't think anyone else would want to go on a hike at 3am!

Third night camping - this spot was a backup spot as the Luna Park campground was overrun with Subarus! So, we picked a flat spot that is used to corral cows into chutes.

Lunch spot in the Gila on fourth day

Fourth night camping FOR WEB.webp

Fourth night - this spot was in the Gila and the elevation was around 7200'. After we left this spot, we wound our way to hwy 59 where we parted ways with Pappy who continued on toward Reserve, NM. This was the first night where the temps dipped below freezing as everything was frozen the following morning.

Sweet, sweet pics Pappy. Did you hear any wolves howling at night?

I didn't. I was a bit west of the preserve … though I only saw a sign coming in. I don't know where it officially ended.
