Would not having an air intake hose cause overheating?

Who told you that? Never heard that before, I don't have an intake hose and I've never gotten close to overheating

No one told me that...i was driving my 84' yesterday here in dallas and it starting to overheat. I remembered that i didn't have a air intake hose and i was just curious if that might of caused that. Besides that water pump what else should i look at?

pull the thermostat and boil it on the stove. Does it open? If no buy a new one.

Radiator could be clogged

Well i checked on the overheating problem and the belt that goes around the water pump, smog pump was loose as a goose. I am going to drive the truck tomorrow and see it that helped.
