Hello - I've been having a problem with the rear left brake over adjusting itself and getting hot. I cooked a set of shoes the other weekend and after replacing them and cleaning everything up it still seems to be happening.. I can set the brakes up by hand so the clearance is correct, then everytime i crank on the e-brake i get another click out of the adjuster eventually getting so tight that I need to manually release them to get the drum off...
The e-brake system seems to be OK other than the 6" cables inside of the drum are worn.. Bellcranks move freely, cable seems to be in good shape.
Anyone have any ideas other than throwing parts at this (brake hardware kit, new 6" cables)?? From searching the forums here it seems like this hot rear left brake is kinda common to our trucks - anyone else had this happen..
Another weird thing that happened was the same rear left brake, before it overheated and cracked, managed to auto-unadjust itself one day when I was 4x4ing.. everything was fine, then I hit a bump in the road and next thing i new my brake pedal travel was going almost to the floor.. This was an intermittant problem at first, but then seemed to stay - soft pedal, no braking force until really close to the floor... So when i got it home i took the drums off and everything looked to be in good shape other than the e-brake cable had bounced out of the pulley somehow, and the star-adjuster looked to have backed itself off 4-5 turns.. Once i adjusted the brakes back up to spec the pedal returned to normal and everything worked.. But I cant figure out how it would have un-adjusted itself...
Thanks for any info.
