Yep, simplest solution, just cut the cancer and cap the good metal off a little bit higher. I actually like the quarter chop, I know it does not change the angle of departure, and that the looks are deceiving but it sure looks like it does. Hahaha, makes rhe truck look taller. I like it.

Can't go wrong with that!

So, I finally finished dismantling the truck. At least what I thought needed dismantling for me to be able to properly work on the rust removal. I removed the fuel tank, but not after I drained the remaining fuel. I had about 8 gallons in there. The tank has some grime inside, but no corrosion that I can see.

Of course there is some surface rust on the top side which I will address as I make progress. I do wonder, and I have asked the question before, do I really need the breather octupus that is attached in th passenger quarter panel? I have a broken pipe and the bracket is pretty mangled. Also, the low hanging tube outside of the lower quarter seems to go all the way to the driver’s side and loop back and then the end is simply inserted in the body crossmember, just like that.

This tube from the picture is what I am talking about.

I also removed the wiring harness to clean and repair. There are a couple wires that have been tapped into for the trailer converter.

This is the tube running East West under the cab just in front of the fuel tank.

And this is the other end, the one that is simply inserted in a rubber grommet, in the cab crossmember just ahead of the fuel tank. I am wondering if I can just cap all those lines off and chuck the octopus.

And here is the mangled octupus.

I do have a spare but not sure of its condition untill I take it out of here.

Looks like my answer is here...

And then delved into some of the body surgery. I cut up the driver's side quarter. Wanted to get an idea of what is under there.
It's messy, is what it is! But like a budy of mine says: "It's just metal, it can be fixed"...so I am going in head high.

I have done a bit more cutting. I have a bit of a dilemma. My donor truck has a perfectly good rear end and I was wondering whether I should do patching or should I just replace the whole rear cab crossmember as one piece?
What yall think?

The left hand side cab mount is also in need of replacing. I am gonna have to do a bunch of puzzle work on this here vehicle.

Built a vibratory tumbler to clean some fasteners. Saw a video, and it came out OK. Worked for about 15 minutes before the screws loosened up. Need to maybe build one of those drum style tumblers.

And this evening I did some more cutting! I wonder when the hell am I gonna start welding? So much cutting! Plus it is easy to cut, not so much to add metal back!

And I had one more area on the roof that needed to be cut out. There was a dent that they had bondoed over and I discovered it because it had started to crack.
Pfffttt...

There was a bit of rust in there, so I applied some encapsulator after cleaning the area real good.
