I found this 11/73 40 recently and took a few pics for the gallery to see. I was told it spent most of its life on a ranch in West Texas. My question is could this be a survivor or an old school resto, please be objective. Thanks Tim well I tried to get the pics here but choose a file button isn't working. They are in my profile if some one would please work their teleportation magic.:bang:

There's overspray on a tube above the brake booster and one of the shifter boot hold-down rings. It actually looks like it almost didn't survive. The warn sticker on the dash indicates that the dash has probably never been resprayed.

Something about the wires going to the hokey aftermarket blinker make me think rewire. There are switches in the dash that aren't original, like the one on the bottom left.

57000 miles? I don't think it matters if it's 57 or 157, it needs a lot of attention. Totally workable. Hope you got it for a good price.

Does not look like an old restoration to me. And I believe the 57K.

It has certainly been worked on but looks pretty solid. Look for paint on rubber weatherstripping & trim. People rarely completely disassemble a car to paint it and it is impossible for all of the masking to be perfect. There is red paint on the transfer shift boot bezel so it looks like there was some painting inside but not everything. I would not mind some early paint work if it preserved the truck.
I think it is a bad sign when the air cleaner is missing because you never know how long the PO might have run it like that or what got sucked down there. To me it's an indicator that whoever was working on it had started getting sloppy.

inner door handle looks funky

and the hood flung open against the windshield, probably more than once ?

Thanks jmdaniel for the link

Fast Eddy: I did look under the dash and the blinker wires were'nt butchered too badly, it can be reversed fairly easily with a soldering gun and heat shrink. I will replace the "hockey" blinker also.

Degnol: thanks I believe the mileage also.

Cleg: I will do some further investigation into the paint, I will also spend some time with a magnet on the outside checking for bondo. The reason for the missing air cleaner is it was there at the repair shop where I found it for a new m/c and brakes. It was all in the back floor board. Good observation

DSRTRDR: very good deduction there are matching marks on the drip rail, I think somebody forgot to latch it down before they went to town :hillbilly:

I think that overspray looking stuff may just be rust. How would the aluminum rivets on the TC shift boot not get paint them, but the ring did?

Looks pretty solid, other than the chopped rear quarters.

Looks good to me. There are a few minor mods the PO has done such as the door keepers etc. but nothing outlandish, well , besides the bumpers and jeep tail lights.

GL

Where in West Tx did you find this? Just curious....
