When I bought my cruiser the PO took the radio for himself... So I bought an after market one, and have recently decided to seek out the look of original dash, so I posted wanted ad here on mud, got what I wanted faster than expected hope to install it this weekend, I'll Post pics

Thanks! I am considering doing the same and putting a Tuff Box in with a hidden unit.

Yeah I too will be putting better radio in my center console, still need to build one though, got an ammo can, and the top part of a console from a lx470, (Lexus landcruiser) hoping to mate those but wou

Would also like to make it taller, here is a pic my newly arrived radio not yet installed

It's what it came with in the late eighties, Toyota has only recently stopped putting tape decks in

my 62 came with the stock radio and i love it. i know a number of guys who put in new style decks with screens and navigation and all that stuff but it just doesn't seem to fit. the stock dash looks so well designed and planned. it just takes away from it to add a bunch of aftermarket stuff. i'm trying to put a cb in without cluttering up the dash. think i'll go for the hidden cobra 75wx st that i can hid the mike when not in use. my bluetooth cellphone device plays music through the radio pretty well anyway so why upgrade to a modern deck. keep it stock looking guys. that's the way they were made to look!!!

I still don't understand why people hack up these classics

Haha! Looks just like mine except I added a mech oil gauge awhile back below the rear wiper switches. I love my old dial radio as well!

Uhh, because some of "us people" don't consider our work "hack".

You purists are so silly sometimes.

so your 60/62 is all stock then? stock suspension, stock tires???

When I had one, it was all stock. But it's ok.

Your type of guys are the ones who would hack up a 1964 Porsche 911 because "I need an MP3."

Or a '64 LV because "I need an SOA and a Cheby V8"

While I'm not over the "mods" I still can't help but be pissed when I see Land Cruiser destruction over and over again everywhere, especially here on 'mud.

You have no idea what I would or would not do to an old Porsche. If you don't like what you see here on Mud then go troll somewhere else, I think we can survive without you.

I'll be the grey zone here. I think mods are great because they tend to bring out ingenuity imagination and most are an improvement in function. I'm just really partial to how the 62 dash looks stock. everyone has their own idea of what looks good and serves them well. that's what makes this forum so great. many different ideas some I like some I dont. that doesn't make them right or wrong though. my 2cents.

Can't we all just get along? :hillbilly:

Nothing wrong with valuing originality, nothing wrong with making your truck into what you want it to be. There's plenty of room for all flavors.

Now hug it out, bitches! :flipoff2:

when i bought my 62 it had the typical single-din-with-shelf aftermarket stereo. i recently upgraded my sound system and put in a double-din touchscreen. while i love all the features (including gps & dvd player) i don't really use them and 90% of the reason i bought that head unit was because it fit into the original spot and was the closest aesthetically to the stock stereo. i agree that the original stereos look fantastic but they aren't powered to fully harness the speakers/amps/woofers in today's market.

as for myself, i prefer a stock or close-to-stock look. my big brother has a 60 that he has done all sorts of cool mods to (electrically and mechanically) and every time i see it i drool with envy. not my style but i sure do appreciate what he has built. just because someone has a different opinion or aesthetic sense doesn't make them wrong, it just means they are different from you.
