I need you guys' help. This gentleman in southern Oregon is flirting with a number very close to what I was wanting to spend. Not sure how many of you have looked at it yet, but the rig is over in the classified section.

Looks clean. I dig the chevy V8 conversion in theory but know little about it. I need your opinions STAT.

- What questions do I need to be asking about this model?
- How's it looking to you guys based on what you can see?
- Any idea how to get her down here inexpensively?
- Should I have him bring it to a neutral 3rd party mechanic for an opinion?

Never really done the long distance buy before. A bit nervous. What's the general thought here, guys? If you'd prefer to chat drop me a PM and I'll call or give you my cell.

I bought mine out of a Portland suburb, so can help you with how to get it here, if you do end up buying it. The cost was $900 for an enclosed trailer, about 21 months ago.

You can always see if anyone on Mud that lives in the area would be willing to take a look for you and or hire a local cruiser specialist garage to do an inspection.

I have that same year and same color, although mine has rust and oxidation and much less armor all.

I'm not a big fan of dropping in a v8. Not saying I'm a purist, but just the route I'd go.

Personally I think you should be patient and find something local. This is just speaking from experience.
I've bought 2 out of the 3 of my cruisers out of state. One sight unseen and I would not do it again.
I'm happiest with the one I found local. It took a while, but was worth the wait.

Just my 2 cents.

But the other one was a winner. Come on, admit it. :grinpimp:

My V8 powered 40 was bought out of state, sight unseen, and except for dry seals, (created by 4K miles over 10 years), has been everything I expected.

Take a chance! You only live once! Lee needs something to do, have him drive it back! Hurry! Mark's up next at the Landing Strip! You don't want to miss that!

After one terrible exper. on an out of state buy, Id get it inspected before you go or buy. It only takes one time. Mike

Oh.. and how about the rust free fj40 I bought a few years ago from a reputable ih8mud member?

Have a fellow cruiser head to inspect the truck if possible.

The one with the typical Arizona rust? Yeah, watch out for a dude named Pskhaat.

If you'd consider an 80, as some have recommended, I know of a solid one that's recently come up for sale. It's in California, owned by a well known and reputable Cruiserhead, and priced right. Let me know if you're interested and I'll hook you up with the owner.

Interested, especially if it's a well-known member of the board that you guys trust. I'll shoot you a PM with my email. Thanks!

Mark, did that guy ever send you all the spare parts that were supposed to be part of your deal? You know, the parts that "accidentally" were left out of the 40 when it was shipped?

NO he did not. But you know Karma is a bitch, and after todays score of my new FJ40... I feel my luck with FJ40's is changing. :D

Yes, it is.

PMaarhk, can't wait to see it. :)

if you are serious, there is a fellow austin cruiserhead that may be able to check it out. Brian is in Portland

I was pretty serious, but had nobody who could go check it out and give me an honest appraisal and I was a BIT worried about getting it all shipped down here.

The guy is located in Rogue River, OR which is pretty damn far. Think this buddy of yours would be willing?
