Where: 912 WindRock Road, Oliver Springs, TN 37840 (~8 hours from D.C.)
When: April 13th-17th (we plan to wheel the 14th-16th, Thursday-Saturday)
Who: Open Invite to the club. Family friendly as well! I'll have my wife, daughter, and dog in tow.
Cost: A three day permit to wheel is $55. Lodging can range from $18 a night for a primitive camp site to $200+ for a cabin. There are Yurts and many sites with full RV hookups available as well. The facilities and bath houses look to be pretty nice from what I can see in pictures. I've called WindRock and April is a busy month for them, if you want to attend it would be wise to reserve a location ASAP. I've reserved a cabin and they don't charge you until you check in.
Trails: I've not actually been here yet, all I know is what I've heard from some of you all + social media. WindRock looks to be similar wheeling to The Cove, but much larger in scale. It's 73,000 acres and over 300 miles of trails. They have a variety of options from easy - extremely difficult. I haven't checked it out yet, but the place has it's own navigation app for Apple/Android.

I've wanted to wheel WIndRock for a while now, so I'm making a point to do it in 2022. Many of you have expressed interest in being invited to more wheeling trips; this is your chance! If you are interested, please post up in this thread and I'll update this post with a roster. I will host a club potluck one evening, it would be helpful to know who is coming. If you have experience with WindRock (any favorite trails?) please feel free to contribute that discussion here as well.

One thing that I ask: PLEASE coordinate your trail-groups before arriving at WindRock. I'd like to keep the coordinating of this trip to a minimum amount of effort. I also don't want to arrive on the first day and have to trail lead for 20 trucks in a place I've never been before. As of right now I have 10 drivers (mostly 100 series or other wagons) who have verbally committed or already made a reservation with the park. I want to be inclusive, but it really is more fun for everyone if we keep the groups to a 5-6 vehicle limit. Use this thread to post up interest, tell everyone what vehicle you'll bring, there's a good chance there are other lurkers with a similarly capable vehicle that would like to join you.

Roster:
TBD

Potluck on Friday:
Call what side you want to bring now and post it up!

Camp Map:
This is the newest map I could find, the cabin I reserved has since been built.
Red: Primitive Camp Sites 4-7 and 18-21 are where I've directed some reservations.
Blue: We have one RV that already booked at A12.

sounds like an awesome trip and it is a place I was talking about going down to as well. Sadly with how i see the calendar filling up for next year I wont be able to make it.
CRR is supposed to be moving back to a Spring date. Then going out to Ouray CO during the FJSummit event to see the San Juan mountains. Then closing out the year with the Fall Crawl of course.
Now... if the trip goes well and in 2023 itis repeated.... we can talk!

We started on trail 22 today. This is another fun blue. Perfect weather made for some dry conditions, the trail ended up being pretty easy. I’m finding most of these popular blue trails are comparable to a Cove green. They are fun and pretty easy, but can be a completely different rating when wet.

The abandoned Nemo tunnel was a cool spot to visit. It’s about a 40 minute drive from Windrock and free to the public. No hard wheeling involved, just a loop through the mountain with some water crossings. There is a nice little camp ground near by and the area is beautiful.

That looks amazing.
Thank you for posting the pictures it looks like it would be well worth the drive to it.
Unfortunately with moving, easter weekend and mother in law's 95th birthday the planets were not aligning for a trip for me.

I’m glad y’all like the pics. I also enjoy seeing ride reports in this forum.

Here’s some more pics from trail 22/27. There’s a great/random pavilion in the middle of the woods at the end of trail 27 and start of 26 (bottom, it’s better to run from bottom to top). I don’t think I have any pics but I know Erich got some drone footage, maybe I’ll be able to share that at some point.

Trail 26 is another Jeep Badge of Honor trail. I think it’s actually rated as being harder than 51 (Panther Rock). There was a stream running down through the trail and it’s very scenic. It was probably one of the easiest trails we did, I don’t think we ever even needed to get out and give anyone a spot. I only ended up taking a couple pictures. It’s still worth doing for the beauty factor.

Bonus mud pic. This place is usually pretty wet.

Saturday got crazy busy, I guess that should be expected when the weather is nice. Alcohol check lines are a real thing. In 4 days my vehicle and cooler were searched 3 times. They have a no tolerance policy to prevent the place from being shut down. Apparently the 4 surrounding counties were tired of helicoptering dumb people off the property. You can obviously enjoy whatever you like in the campground, just can’t bring it on the trails with you.

To skip the lines, I recommend taking roadway 116 to the Graves Gap Church area. From there you can access plenty of trails. It’s about a 25 minute drive on asphalt, but if you drive slow on the trails that could take you hours to get to the same point by dirt. This is the quicker way to access trails like 51, 30, and 31.

We finished trail 22, 27, and 26 quickly but it was all we had really planned for. We ended up going to trail 82 which is a black. 82 was short but really cool, my favorite part of the trip. There was a fun ledge to climb on the way up the trail. Half the group ended up winching and a few of us were able to make it unassisted. I appreciate wheeling with like-minded people. Everyone was willing to give it a few tries but was then willing to winch before breaking something.

The 3rd gen aka ‘Magic Carpet’ sent it up the ledge just enough to get it done.
