Okay, I'm such a newb that I don't even HAVE a cruiser yet. Just wanted to see if the forum could recommend some online cruiser resources (for vehicles, not parts). Currently, I frequent the following:

Autotrader.com
Autobytel.com
Austin Craigslist

Any other thoughts? I'm looking for an 80 in the Austin area.

Thanks

Ummm .. I think EBay has a few time to time.

I went the EBay route in 2001. Ebay was actually the smoothest part of the transaction ..

Good luck man ..

Yeah, Ebay is an ok source. I have purchased 2 on Ebay. On the first one I got totally jacked. Make sure you read all the informaiton converning you rights as a buyer and don't let the seller persuade you to pay ohter the recommed methods or delay your pick up or viewing of the vechicle once you buy it.

Guy had me send a cashiers check because he counldn't figure out how to get his money from paypal. BIG NO NO!

The second 40 I bought is sweet. I learned the hard way and asked all the right questions, got pictures and had Lance at IPOR guide me on the price. Got a clean, solid West Coast ride at a fair price.

I used auctionsnipper so I didn't bid until the last few seconds and could cancel my bid anytime before then. Highly recommed this for any auction.

If you do buy out of state, I bought from CA, and you can't pick up be prepared to deal with some real a-holes when it comes to shippers. Long on promises short on service. Check epinons.com on the matter.

Long and the short of it is educate yourself on the problem areas related to the type of LC you want to buy. Ask the pointed questions, ask for pictures of the know rust areas etc.

Good luck!

I bought mine here on IH8Mud. Woody, I owe 'ya.

I almost purchased one on ebay from a guy in W. VA. Only reason I didn't was a local sale and time crunch. I'm pretty certain that the guy gets them at the Manheim auction in PA, he did not corfirm it for me. If that is the case most of the stuff at the exotic auctions at Manheim is in good shape.

Cars.com, that's where I found mine. It was the only place that had the two locked 80's I looked at, and they were both local. Autotrader didn't have crap for my area (unless you wanted to shell out $12k + ).

I ended up buying from an autotrader.com listing. I used craigslist, cars.com and ebay as well while shopping.

There seem to be quite a few listed on ebay from Texas. Mostly the Dallas area I think, but worth a look.

Is that Bismarkguy? He usually has a number of decent cruisers. He really canvasses the country looking for good cruisers and seems to specialize in them.

I don't recall the guys user name. Came across as a straight shooter. I did carfax on a few of his cruiser and all looked good on paper. If I'm still in the NE when I look for a new cruiser I'll try and find him to start the search.

got mine from cars.com but had some good leads from autotrader. I'll tell you this: do not be fooled by the too-good-to-be-true "deals" on 80s at Carsearch USA in FL. They are con artists.
