Why are you taking the engine a part?

Hey Jon.
To see what's inside, of course.

And because it has 200k miles on it.
Granted, it was pretty strong and tight with 120 psi across the cylinders, but still, 200,000 is 200,000.
And I'm thinking of some modest upgrades. Not sure what. At the least, like Shawn suggested, some porting and polishing. At most to restroke it to a 383 and a mild cam.

I can't wait to see that beauty inside your engine bay some day. Take good notes if you would pls.

Does this mean progress?

Juane -

It looks like progress to me! So how are things looking now that you've got it torn apart? Any clue yet on how many parts will need to be replaced versus cleaned up and re-used? Are you planning to bore the block and use new pistons/rings? New main bearings? How's the cooling going to work - the V-8 block is so much shorter (front to back) than the straight six - it seems like the fan would be too far from the radiator to do much good - or maybe you can position the engine a little closer to the front?

Also, it would be interesting to hear more about your shop space. It looks like you have plenty of room, and maybe even more importantly in Salida in the winter, it looks warm!

Thanks for keeping us informed of your project. Like Ali, I'd like to check it out when you're done. That should help you make better time up and over Monarch Pass!

Evan
