General impressions of the OME Heavy/Heavy lift: sweet nectar of awesomeness.

General impressions of Cruiser Outfitters: a rare breath of fresh air. He is a busy guy but that is because he is a successful self employed business owner. And he should be busy. If you leave a message, he returns phone calls religiously. Not only is he knowledgeable, but his customer service is phenomenal. Being the first time I have worked with him, I have now added him to the top of the list of my vendors. I am picky.

Pre lift dimensions, hub to top of wheel well:
FR: 17 27/32"
FL: 17 13/32"
RR: 14 5/8"
RL: 14 1/2"
(i.e. 'the saggin wagon')

Post lift dimensions, hub to top of wheel well:
FR: 22 1/4"
FL: 22 1/4"
RR: 22 1/2"
RL: 22 1/2"

I have not tested speeds greater than 40mph for driveline vibration.

My only issue was shearing the lower shock bolt on the front left spring plate. My bolt extraction method involved breaking 3 eazy-outs (smallest broke...punch it down...next largest broke...pound it down...next largest broke...@#$^%&!). A machinist friend of mine came through with a carbide endmill and bridgeport.

Pics to follow...

Congrats on the great OME experience. You won't regret it.
That rig of yours looks sweet.
What rear bumper is that?

I couldn't agree more!

Kurt is great to work with. I had some manufacturing issues with springs I got from him a few years back, we worked out calculations, test scenarios, re-measured, then re-measured again, I swapped springs, etc. He was incredibly willing to help and his knowledge of this stuff is phenomenal. that's especially good for me since I'm a desk-jockey with a dangerous amount of knowledge (just enough to screw things up reeeeeaaaaal good). Long story short - one spring was out of spec, he helped work with ARB (OME) and got a replacement within the warranty period. good stuff.

It's been said before, I'll say it again. Kurt is Da'Man. Also on the top of my list of vendors.

(bump and comment for a great vendor)

(nostalgic sigh)

aaaaaah...(pause)...my first 60 was a white 85...I have such a soft spot in my heart for white 60's. She looks just plain great.

Looks great... and no 'stinkbug'!

Yeah I am jealous of that. Mine is Stinkbug central and I got Medium duty rears with HD fronts. I thought that would level it out like it does on the 80 series :(

Great looking truck!

What rear bumper is that?

Rear bumper is the 4+ tow bumper with tire swing-out and fuel can holder (from Man-a-Fre). It is a beef cake. You do have to remove the rear cross member as the bumper becomes the new rear cross member. Did I say beef cake? Because it is. That is why my pre lift measurements show my rear 3" below the front. the top of my 31" tires could not be seen as they were a 1/2" within the wheel well (hence the saggin' wagon).

Thanks for all the comments. My right rear quarter is getting the rust cancer. Notice I didn't show that side in the pics? Any one have a patch panel for the lower 25% of the right rear quarter with the dog leg for the door? :D

Again, mad props for Cruiser Outfitters.

I must say...the OME is the second best addition to 'Shamu'...very close behind the H55 :steer:

Until then...

looks real good...
Now all you need is some more meat under that good looking rig and yah be good as gold...

WNGROG, I put some longer shackles on the front and that level my truck right up...

Did you do those aweful aluminum shims to get the caster right with the longer shackles? That is the only reason I have not done that. I hate the aluminum wedges between steel and I think longer shackles will make it wander. Am I wrong?

Actually I did.. and mine does not wonder at all.. it tracks nice and straight...

I read somewhere in here that you could use metal shims and not alumm......

My rig is more for expedition than anything.

Its been 3 years plus since I did my suspension upgrade with the shims and have not had any issues with it.

BTW I dont know if you are wrong or not..... but I also know some peeps in here have had issues with the alum shims...

Hate to be the turd bearer of bad news, but I think your front shackles are on upside down. Short side of the triangle goes on top.

Nice rig, my OME arrives in about a week.:bounce::

I'm humbled by your words. The truth is the we had a small shipping dilemma with HopLite's order. When I say small I mean that the trucking company decided to apparently stack other pallets on top of ours. Nothing was damaged but every thing was out of their boxes, etc. HopLite was an extreme gentleman about the situation and let us make it right. Thanks again for being such a great customer!

Skniper is right, your front shackles are upside down. The anti-inversion bar should be closest to the frame. Really easy fix though, a few minutes per side and easier than ever now that everything is clean and greased.

Ahh...you are correct. My anti-inversion shackles are inverted  Good thing they are all nice a greasy. I'll remedy that when I re-torque everything and trim the exposed threads of the u-bolts.

Thank you for pointing that out.:wrench:

Edit: After looking at all 4 corners, it seems that the only one upside down is the front left corner. Thanks again...

There are millions of those shims out there and most do fine. Every time I have used them they end up flattening out and the ubolts get loose.....the center pin breaks.....yeah that has been my experience (twice like a dork)

I ended up getting some steel ones and they were way too thick. They came with the right angle, but they were overall 1/2" thicker than the aluminum ones and after I had trimmed my Ubolts, I could not use them without new ubolts.

They are in the used parts drawer somewhere.

I think I will stick with the stink-bug.....

My only suggestion is if you have AL caster shims, check your Ubolts often.
