Well installing steering damper today on my 82 fj40, curious if this looks right. I have not tightened the nuts down yet? It just seems that the replacement should sit more flush with steering linkage.

No, that is how the aftermarket, generic units look....

:meh:

looks right to me?

I thought mine looked funny too but the thing was tight and no slop or play anywhere so I went with it, and its been 600mi or so and no problems yet.....

I have checked all my nuts and bolts 4 times now and only had to re-torq the u-bolts @ the first check, every thing else has been tight so far. honestly, I expected the shackle hardware to loosen up a bit but it is still tight and I've greased it twice.

She rides more like a truck now instead of a tractor..:steer:

It seems strange that they don't fit better than that. I torqued mine down thinking that it was just a tight fit and I ended up stripping one of the tapered extensions. Lesson learned.
