... over the past 6 months since I installed my lift ( medium rear, heavy front ) I always hated the fact that the front end was so much lower than the rear. I was noticing this morning that it is getting worse, pretty soon I can use it as a snowplow.

Longer shackles won't do it, they would have to be 2 feet long.

Looks like the only thing to do is install a block between the fixed spring perch and make longer shackles. Just what I feel like doing after I purchase a reputable suspension kit.

I know pics would be good here but every time I try and post a pic its a PITA. Anyone else have this problem with OME kits in the past year?

Its beyond me how anyone would manufacture a kit that gives my 70 a stance like a drag car. Pis*es me off...

...also the spring eye inserts are all separated from the springs... ie. the inserts are like one with the bushings, whats the point of greasing the bushings if they and the inserts just jam around in the spring eyes, with metal on metal contact? Damn...

where did you buy it? where are you located?
got pics

<2 ft is a bit of an exageration>

hello,
bit of a job to know w/o a photo. I think most OME suspension do give it a forward pitch, if you like. This is a photo of how mine was after adding medium (springs/shocks) allround. she pitches downwards at front. How does yours compare?

Hi All:

"Farmer Fred," that is how the OME suspension is designed to look sitting empty.

Remember, the front springs feature constant weight (i.e. the engine, winch, etc.) while the rear springs have to carry varying loads.

The idea is that when the rear of the rig is loaded-up with lots of gear and supplies for a long bush trip the rearend will be level, not sagging like stock springs would.

That said, if you rarely carry much weight in the rear of the vehicle, you'd be better off using a lighter rated rear spring.

I used to run OME medium load front and light load rear springs in my FJ40. Why? Because with only a soft top and occasional heavy loads the medium load rear springs were too much - the rear shackle angle improved when I removed one leaf fromt each rear spring pack (converting the springs from medium to light load rating.)

Regards,

Alan

you could always take a leaf out and/or add a nice thick heavy bumper in the rear.... my front bumper must weight 100lbs... and my truck pretty much sits like that with nothing in it and no tongue weight...

oh yeah- my truck sits perfect and is ideal for pulling diesel bowser/trailer. with weight on the back it levels out nicely. Have you got a photo Natty?

Have you tried a warranty claim? If the person who sold them wont help,go straight to the top and jump up and down till it is fixed.

well I will work on posting pics, but mine seems a little worse that yours in the pic. I figured with the medium rear springs it would be a little more level. I thought it might have been that I got heavy springs sent when I actually ordered mediums, but I have contacted them and cross referenced the # and they are med. I have had it loaded quite a bit on a couple runs, but it seems like for my truck it will need a ton of weight on it for it to be level. I know it will still be fine, I guess I'm just one of those guys who likes the completely level look. What does concern me is the spring eye sleeves... to me that is a big deal. I had ARB send me a new spring because it seems like one I got from them was a dud ( truck sitting lopsided ). When I took the bad one off to replace, the metal sleeves in the spring eyes ( which were fixed solid when I got them ) slided easily out with the bushings. And showing early signs of metal on metal wear...

well here is a pic, to me the front end is too low. I would think that if someone were to want this type of stance from a lift kit, they would have to specify. Myself, I like the level stance. Just wanted to know if everyone with the OME setup ended up like this... time to fab up new shackles...

oh yeah, note my factory reproduction decals, and my subtle camo job done in vinyl. Anyone in the Calgary area need help with decals, camo, rockguard or vehicle graphics of any kind, feel free to PM me...

Hi All:

Dude, the rig looks good!

The frontend is only slightly lower than the rear. Enjoy your '70 and don't worry about it! :D

Alan

...I was trying to level out the front end here...

Thanks for the reply Phil... I've found that I need a ton of weight for it to level out... too mush in my opinion when wheeling. Like I said I was wondering if I ended up with heavies on the rear but thats not the case.

As for the kit itself, I though some might find it interesting how for my truck I needed 2 of the same rear springs - the kit comes from ARB with a L & R side spring, both different. My truck sat ridiculously lopsided. ARB was great and shipped me a new spring no charge by the way...

But like I said the spring eye sleeves come out of them anyways so in my opinion they are crap. You should have a look at yours and compare. Whats the point of greasable shackles if you have metal on metal contact outside the bushings?
