OME dakars shifting whole truck? What the?

I've had these OME dakar medium heavies on the rear for about eight months. I have read lots of posts on popping from these units. My question is when is a pop not a pop? I just invested in new u-bolts, which are torqued to 100 pounds. I have the truck that used rubber isolators and covers over the spring packs which I removed. I took up the space around the spring pin with the OME supplied part that looks like a little brass bushing. Still, on off-camber turns you can hear and feel the rear of the truck shift from one side to the other. Can also be simulated with sharp turns in parking lots. Feels like the springs are shifting on the axle but it seems impossible with the new bolts. I'm just about ready for a YouTube style diagnosis…hanging off the rear bumper while my wife does doughnuts in the parking lot so I can SEE underneath! Anyone else have this shifting around experience?
 
Your issue may lie in the removal of the rubber isolators. You might want to cross check this with ARB in Renton, WA. to verify. Sounds like the spring pack is shifting. Had a similar problem with a set of OME front springs - replaced springs with heavier Dakars and problem solved, no more shifting and popping.

Call ARB, they will be able to help you for sure.

I thought the required torque was much higher than that ,around 180psi

Do you have new shackle bushes? If not they could be shifting around. Sometimes you can put a bar in the and simulate the sideways movement
 
It's not a common concern as most trucks did not have the rubber and steel isolators. My problem is that I'm using an OME part that's designed to replace the isolators, so it should work. I put in new OME bushings and greasable shackles and pins when I did the install. I don't get it.

Doesn't make sense to me either. But agree with dogboy that calling ARB is the next logical step.
 
i fitted up dakar springs a coupla weeks back and i asked the blokes at arb what torque on the u bolts,they said bloody tight,also i pulled them off and removed a leaf from the back,when i remounted the u bolts i dumped the bottom rubber mount and noticed they tightened up a lot more solid then before,ive retightened front and back about three times now,i think roscoe might have a point,i dont know if 90lbs is tight enough,why dont you just get under it without torque wrench and see how tight they feel.

I know I've got more than 100 pounds on them now. When I pull on them with the torque wrench, It feels like they're not going to go any further. Gotta call ARB this week.

But, as pointed out above, OEM has the rubber bushing. And there is that "shifting" issue. Maybe ARB recommends something different for their OME suspension?
 
I've got the OME bushings too. Greased everything up today, including the grease fittings between the leaves. Now it seems to shift even more. Maybe this is normal? Just seems weird that the cadillac of springs would go glonk glonk on every sharp turn in both directions…
 
Something is amiss.... properly functioning and properly fitted OME/Dakar springs generally don't make a sound.

Lots of thread left. I can rock the truck to pieces and it won't procuce the noise. But the weight of the truck in sharp turns does it every time. Could bad wheel bearings cause that much movement?
 
Was the clunking/popping there before you installed the OME suspension 8 months ago?

Loose bearings might make a clunk sound.

Worn shackle bushings, or shackle plates with too much room around the sides of the springs could do this (learned this when my front shackle bushings wore out).

Do you have a rear swaybar? If yes, maybe this is where the noise is coming from?
 
so did you replace shocks?

OK...So forget I even asked..twice.

That really hurts my feelings...you bastards.. I hope it stays squirrly and you find out in a few years that your shocks were too short for the springs..(sniff, I can't write any more now, i've got to try to regain my composure..sniff..:crybaby:)
 
Now look, you hurt high deserts feelings.

Is there any play between the shackle bolts and the side plates?
