Did a search and didnt come up with anything. Would love a DIY link - I am going to try to tackle this on my own this weekend. Is this possible without a lift? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've never done one but I'm sure you'll need to put the frame on jack stands high enough for the tires to be off the ground, then you'll have to jack up the axel to free up the weight on the springs. Then I think you should be able to start the tear down at that point.
Take pics of your progress and post them up for us who haven't done one yet.

It is pretty straight forward. Just like he said. I did mine a year ago and it went well but there were a few issues with getting the new bushings into the hangers but I've sure been happy with the ride. Post up if you need help. Good luck!

Just take the tires off so you don't need a 2' tall jack stand.

If you have rust, start applying PB Blaster now! :) Removing the shackles and pins from the frame were a bear for me! Luckily I had everything removed and had just the frame and suspension, so I had good access. But it took a lot of swinging with a big hammer and prying with various pry bars to get my pins and shackles out. Oh, and the u-bolts, they were a pain too where some of them actually preferred to break rather than remove the nuts.

prybar helps to get the spring eyes into position again - the bigger the better

this is a good time to inspect your spring and shackle pins as well

Don't forget the cutting disc and the grinder . I had problem with the center pin , for this i used binder (ratchet binder ) . Two jack and yes pry bar. I'm actualy finishing mine 2.5'' oem.

Very good jacks, torch, pry bars, dont do it alone. Mike

I've got an OME kit on order and have begun oiling everything up and breaking a few nuts loose. I'm not sure it's cool to break the U-bolt nuts say a half turn before everything is up in the air - but I like the idea better with the truck on the ground (like changing a tire, etc.). Most of mine were really tight - big breaker bar required. I've got everything turning now with no broken bolts at this point. I'll check back on how it goes - if I'm not stuck under the truck. :grinpimp:

Thanks for all the responses. I'll be sure to take some pics along the way. I would be soaking parts in PB blaster, but it is currently on its way up from the port in Miami. I had a diesel imported from Costa Rica. I haven't actually seen it with my own eyes yet, but it is slated to arrive on Saturday. Before I drive it 10 miles, I plan on doing the suspension. I'd attach some photos, but in the "go advanced" tab I dont have a button to attach files...

Hi All:

DM993tt, where are you located?

Chances are there might be some 'Cruiserheads in your area that would be happy to come over and drink your beer while giving you advice on the project! :D

Just saying! :grinpimp:

Good luck!

Alan
