After 12 years with the OME springs and 2 years with the Ironman Foamcell Pro I decided to swap in a Dobinsons lift with the full adjustable MR shocks.

Today I collected parts and prepped the front for the springs and shocks.

Hey Nolan; curious how you liked the Ironman vs the OME. I have a set in my shop and was considering putting them on a truck. Thanks. Jimmy.

I’ve had the OME Dakar springs for 12 years and they are still great. I just wanted to try the Dobinsons

The Ironman Foamcell pro are light years better than the OME yellow shocks

Ok. I was a bit confused. Thought you were running Ironman springs.

I went with a heavy pack for the front as it’s easier to remove a leaf if needed than add one later. My sway bar was way too short so I added these monsters from Man a Fre

I’ve been running this adjustable steering damper on my 80 and it’s awesome. Adjust by clicking the screw on the tip

Next I lined up the rivnuts and drilled for M6

All done in the front

What bump stops are you running?

EDIT: Timbrens, it looks like.

The front came up too far with the heavy springs. Gonna pull the 3rd leaf and it should be good. I’ll get some measurements after I twist it up some.

When I ordered this Dobinsons kit from @Ozark cruiser at Ozark Overland Outfitters I specifically picked heavy fronts because I’ve just been getting my ass kicked with OME kits and stinkbug stances.

I figured at least this way I’d have the leaf here to take away versus having to order another add-a-leaf if I needed to raise it up.

Well I’ll for sure be pulling a leaf. But I think that’s going to make it perfect.

Right now the lift brought my front up 3” and rear up 2” from my ok’d setup.

I’ve REALLY got to upgrade my suspension test ground. I was able to get some good pics on this pass but the second pass I damn near got stuck.

The timbrens touch here but once I lower it a bit I think they will be right

I did not plan on that hour of pressure washing after all that work today

I knew I was in trouble when I put the new fronts next to the old ones. Dobinsons does more arch, more small leafs versus the OME less arch, thicker leafs concept

The Dobinsons fronts I got were very close in size but the rears had one that was a good bit bigger. I have always had a drivers side lean so I put that whopper spring

This is the rears. Height was pretty much the same like this but you can see how these have more arch and smaller leafs v OME

It’s pretty amazing how good this thing rides with brand new fully arched springs and with the front shackles at the wrong angle. I can’t wait to play with the settings on these shocks and get the shackle angle right.

Im getting some Ubolt flip kits from @lcwizard and when they come in I’ll dissect that front leaf pack then dial it it. More on that by the end of next week.

I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with @lcwizard and his helper Brandon yesterday. Top quality shop and products.

Interesting comparison bt the Emu’s and Dob’s. I like that their fronts appear more arched and could help eliminate some of the stinkbug look, maybe. What’s your impression of the stance now?
Could the Dobs higher arch compromise the shackle angle though? Really interested to see how this works out as I would consider a set of front springs like that to offset my heavy rear Emu’s, mix n match brands.
And if I ever get my junk running again I will be adding more weight to the front.

I’m going to have to remove a leaf up front to get it a good testing.

Keep in mind, I intentionally ordered the HJ61 front springs versus the FJ60 front springs because it allows me to pull leaves versus add leaves of long front shackles. I’m still in the test phase and won’t be able to give the full report until I can get the front down a bit.

These highly arched springs usually sack out a bit pretty quick then settle so I’m thinking that the leaf removal will end up being perfect up there.

You just need to load your camping gear and jump the RR tracks a few times a day for a week. 😄
