Old steering wheel as an adapter? (1 Viewer)

I realize that this might get me kicked off the forum for mentioning it, but my 1972 wheel is cracked up pretty bad, and I don’t have the desire or budget to repair the wagon wheel. Would like a bit smaller one, anyway. Has anyone torn the old wheel down to the metal base and attached a grant wheel to it? Seems that it would just need a few holes tapped, and it would work, and retain turn signal functions and maybe the horn?

You would think as long as JTO has been around they would realize 7/69 the steering shaft count went from 36 to 33. Also not sure why a 36 spline adapter couldn't go back to the 61 model.

I actually bought what I think is that same kit from Summit when I got the new wheel. I was hoping I could salvage the horn and turn signal but you could be right. Hang the wheel on the garage as decoration.
