I put an old school air cleaner on this 9-73 engine thinking it was probably a f, years later I find out its 2f and now wonder if makes any difference. I dont have any smog stuff on it and runs great.
My thoughts are if it works dont fix it. Whats your take?

It will be fine a looks cool as well

looks good to me...keep it...but...

the purist in me says....paint it black :p

then get a new sticker from AATLAS1X
X2, what he said.

It's correct for the vintage of the vehicle AND the carb, and that's what counts.

That looks very much like a standard non-USA air cleaner found here on FJ40's right up to 1984 - the type without dust cyclone. Most are with dust cyclone and both types use the same element.
"With cyclone", the air cleaner housing is slightly larger to make space for plastic "fins" that knock down particles in a whirling action. Grit gets caught in a removable can.
The only differences I see in yours are the rib design and also that the "air in horn" on yours appears to get air from in front of the rad. Here, the horn is orientated to a cooler air supply very near to directly at but above the driverside headlight.

I have the same air cleaner on my 2F and the only issue you will have is if you add power steering. You'll need to move your alternator to the other side so your PS lines have a shorter route.

Mine's slightly different. It's off of a 1979 FJ40 from Chile I just picked up. Of course, everything goes in South America, so God know what it really came off of. :)

thanks

Thanks guys looks like theres no room for improvement for the old school air cleaner. I'm not going with the power steering as I need the exersize. I like the silver and black ,so looks like were all good here.

Hmmm. Thats intresting

[Im looking at your valve cover and I seen that kind before and Iv'e seen others as well. Now i;m wondering how many different styles were used on the 2Fs. Mine has a circular old school japanese logo on the top. Your air cleaner looks right at home.
