Nothing technicle about this, -15 sitting cold. Went skiing for a couple of days, came back and the engine seemed like there was concrete in it! After about 45 min bake (and a little help from some starting fluid, which we found on a skidder later on) she started in 3 quick cranks.

My battery (red top Optima) is new and the glow plugs checked out, so I'm asuming that my dilema was't anything new? Though I'm currently installing a second battery (isolated) with a 12v 250 watt oil pan heater, that I want to have on a timer. For such instances that I can program it to come on 4 hours before, and not have to risk burning down my truck.

Good oil but likely too thick for -15. I ran 0-40 synthetic in my 70 when I went to River Shiver and my 12V 70 started ok in colder temps than that, without any visits from the ether bunny. I'm sure some of the cold weather guys will chime in here soon, but I'd say you need less viscosity.

Yup, Norms right 0-40 is the best. A little pricey for me, but having trouble free starting at -40 with no plug in is important to me sometimes:D

I run Shell rotella 0-30 semi syn. It's about $5 a litre but my truck will start in -30 without being plugged in.
