My 1HDT has arrived from England. Thanks, Chapelgate!

Safe and dry in climate-controlled storage until I am ready for her...

Thanks for the info. I may do that.

So I've encountered a few people who have put a 1HDT into a 40, and they have offered to be of help when and where possible. However, I would really love to find a list somewhere of items needed for that swap, or items that may or may not want to be used. If anyone knows of any additional info, I'm all ears.

soo reading trough this it seemed like the FJ and the garage looked familiar :) im the guy that picked up that roll cage a few weeks ago!

ill be following your progress...

Small world! Hope the roll cage worked out for you.

I removed the steering wheel and steering box in preparation for dropping the body back down to stock height for mocking my engine/transmission/t-case up.

Got the rest of the body lift blocks off. Also got enough of the stock height body mounts on to allow me to mock up my engine/trans when the time comes.

Not a list per say but, the 75 build thread in my signature covers a HZ install in a 40 I did a few years ago. You'll have to do all the same things for the 1HDT.

Thanks. I’ll check it out.

Man, I really appreciate you sharing that with me. I can't believe I haven't run across that yet in all my searching on here. I'm not finished reading through it yet, but it looks like there's a ton of good info in there. I had no clue that was you that rolled the 40 on the interstate. That picture is such a heart-breaker, that I have it saved on my PC. Really sorry about all that.

Did your fabricator friend ever get set up to reproduce any of those motor mounts? If so, I would be interested in buying some. Stuff like that would save me a bunch of time and effort.

Anyway, I look forward to reading through the rest of it when I have a little more time.

I think I missed a post or something. What is this about?

Edit: Nevermind. o_O

That was a very sad day! Thankfully neither of my friends were seriously injured that day.

So I got my FF rear end yesterday. I haven't unpacked it yet. Been busy. Apparently, someone had swapped the axles on this one at some point. The full float housing also looks strange not being painted. Maybe someone had swapped this to disc brakes at some point? I don't really know what went on with it, but it doesn't look like studs have even been installed in the flange holes. I didn't see any marks at all on the insides of the holes. The good news is, these upgraded axle shafts are chromoly steel. Now I'm thinking about installing a lunchbox locker in the rear before putting this in.

Had a few other things to do in the shop this evening, so I didn't get a lot done, but I did manage a few things. I removed the old steering box mount, removed the steering linkage going from the old box to the drag link, and removed the front shocks. I also removed lines and linkage from the FJ60 power steering box in preparation for mocking it up before sending it off for a rebuild.

Decided to rebuild my 60 power steering box myself. Ordered a Gates rebuild kit from Rock Auto today. $30 shipped.

I've had some super tight pitman arms on my Samurais in years past, but this 60 series might be the tightest one ever. I didn't think it was ever going to give up. Had to get tough with it.

This evening I fitted the 60 series power steering box to the 40 frame. I still need to find or make some bushings to put inside the frame rails, weld the backing plate, and install some proper hardware. I will also reinforce the shock mount where I made the relief cuts.

Sorry... no updates lately. I've been doing a lot of thinking since I bought my beige 1980 FJ40. I have decided that I would rather put my 1HDT in that one instead. So, I've been working on putting 'Old Blue' back together, while fixing what I can and trying to make her a little nicer along the way. Once she's back together, I'm going to sell that one to help finance an 80 series. Too bad I didn't find my Beige 40 just a little sooner. Oh well.

This evening, I installed the rest of the new body mounts. It's was kind of a pain, but it's done now. Also working on the inside of the tub where someone had applied some ugly brown paint.
