OK to use a marine battery in my 80?

Dunno. I looked through the owner's manual, underhood, and the FSM even got a quick glance. There's no info on the original spec - anyone have a definitive source? I have always tended to just stuff the biggest battery that would fit in any vehicle I've ever owned.

I have two group 27 batteries (one on the left and one on the right) and they fit like a glove. They fit like they were made to fit. I think Dan said the group 27f was the stock size. f for the reversed terminals.

Actually I have a group 27 deep cycle and a group 27f for the main battery. That way the positive terminals are both inboard.

Hmmm. Which is larger/higher capacity - 24 or 27? I shudder to think that I could be putting something in the Cruiser that's SMALLER or LIGHTER DUTY than spec'd!!!!

27f is the stock battery size, I cannot remember what the exact source was for that but it is accurate, call it tribal knowledge.

24 is smaller, that is what the PO had in mine, since replaced with a pair OF AGM's

as for specs did find this for the 96LX

Battery Capacity (5HR) Voltage & Amp. hr. 12–64, 12–56*7
Generator [Alternator] Output Watts 960
Starter Output kW 2.0, 1.4*7

*7: Option

so 12volt, 64 amp hour minimum battery

I want to say that the stock battery was 650CCA or there abouts.

Edit: Too slow, Darwood got it

Hmmm - I've got waaay more CCA's on both trucks but I like the idea of a larger battery. Recently, I read a battery test where of all things Wal Mart's factory brand kicked serious butt, but you had to get the one for Northern climates which is part of the model number. Can't recall where that test was published..

I did find that 27f's were hard to find. I wound up with a Sear DieHard International (Johnson Control). The reserve capacity is 155 mins and the CCA is 710.

Yeah, the 94 has a DieHard International series 24 and it refuses to even weaken after 7 years. Amazing. Of course now that I said that, it will puke up a cell while I'm out on a SAR mission this winter and I'll arrive back at the truck freezing from a fall through lake ice and then the truck won't start. I'll just burn the truck for heat, I guess....

Which is why you set up dual batteries. ;)
