While in the process of rebuilding my motor, I started to clean the Oil Cooler housing. (Blown Head gasket or so I thought) It had a very corroded area at one end. I started scraping with a small flathead. I noticed the aluminum was very soft so naturally I kept picking at it and this is the end result....

I assume others have had this issue, How do we prevent this from happening in the future???

Less than 150,000 on the motor, BTW.

"Colonoscopy"??

ROFL  I just noticed that in the pic, GOOD EYE!

Yep, I have Colitis, or did. I had my Colon removed a couple years ago. My doctor likes to go in , Literally and take a peak around ever few years ...... I hope I just didn't open a can of worms with this..:D

I'm not sure what the PO did as far as maintenance.

Wow, Looks like you win the most damage award! :p I plan to run the Toyota antifreeze, hopefully that will take care of it.

I would get a couple bottles of Prestone Super Flush and run that with distilled water for a week or so. Then, flush and fill with Toyota Red. I was surprised how much crap came out of mine when I did that.

Thanks for the tip!

Glad you're now healthy.

So, do you suspect the problem was the oil cooler all along, rather than the HG?

Thank you, sir!

I noticed to HG looked good when I tore the motor down so this probably was the problem all along....
