I think the 8 quarts thing is with a dry engine.

I just replaced my oil, after replacing the oil pan gasket, cleaned it all out and it only took 6.5qt. Everything is running fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

Am assuming your "cleaned it all out" meant a thorough motor flush?
6.5 qts is hardly enough to fry up a chicken, much less run your rig on.

OK, I won't sweat it. I appreciate everyone's help.

Horse**** bro...it's an in-line 6. Only the single most reliable and slowest motors ever built. Find out your prob before you become one of "those" who's posting about a "swap out"

The space where the other 1.5 qts should go is being taken up by sludge...

:D

That would be a boat load of sludge, but a good thought.

My 62 with a big filter takes 8qts. It shows full to just over on the dipstick.

If you are curious, pull the pan down and take a look. Otherwise don't worry about it and cruise on. I had the pan down n mine at 120k and there really wasn't any sludge at all. Pretty clean actually. Same under the valve cover.
