Had a hard time deciding where to post this, but it’s time for oil changes, on both, and I’d love to be able to just buy one brand of filter and one brand/weight of oil.

Are the oil filters the same on a 2007 LX470 and a 2015 LX570?
Which filter is better, OEM, Mobile 1 (102 or 209) or WIX?
5/30, 0/40 M1 Oil?

Yes, I read the “old” thread, of a host of opinions, which actually helped me to narrow down the choices of filters and the likely oil I will end up using, I think.

Both are driven in and around the Sacramento to San Fransisco areas. LX570 is a 15 mile per day, to work and back, driver mainly (wifes garage queen.) LX470 is mine, and I retired, so I drive it when and where I want, but generally put no more than 10k per year on it; it’s at 144k now.

I’ve never changed the oil, or anything else for this matter, on these myself. Time to start. BTW, I do change my own oil in my RV, 12 quarts of diesel; it’s really easy.

Also, any really good drain pans out there, to make the job less messy? and a way to carry the old oil to a disposal station?

Anxiously awaiting comments….

I would suggest investigate installing a Fumoto or EZ Drain valve on your pan drain. Jowett also make a filter cap replacement that uses these types of valves which take virtually all of the mess factor out of this task.

Hm…. book says 470 = 5w-30, 570 = 0w-20…so, not the same. Okay. Now looking to the filter.

Yeah, I don’t know about this right now. I’m just trying to get the oil/filters pin down.

I checked for the M1 209, fit for a 2007 LX470 and I find this: Amazon product ASIN B000CIXOXA
How do you guys say the M1 209 oil filter fits in place of the M1 102?

4.7 uses a spin on filter, 5.7 is a cartridge filter. Not at all interchangeable.

I would suggest buying OE Toyota filters at a local dealer.

Hahahaha, yes, I just found this out. Dummy me, I guess I should have done some first hand research, but no matter, it’s almost done.
I just finished (miserable experience!) changing oil/filter on the 470…PITA! I’m lube everything next, after lunch and a few beers!

I had no idea the 2015, 5.7 had a cartridge. Now I know. Doing it tomorrow. I’ll bet it’s going to be a bigger PITA!

Thanks!

Hm, well, I’ll look.
right now I’m trying to figure out how to rotate the driveshaft so I can get to the two last fittings to lube!!!!!!
And hopefully before the sun gets to the end of the garage and starts to creep in and bust my arsch with its intense rays!!! It’s 97!

how do I get the shaft to rotate??? I have the tranny in neutral and the hi/low shifter in neutral and it still won’t turn! 😩

I hate to be that guy, but all of this has been covered in detail countless times in this section. Including the fact that you can run 5w-30 in the 200, as is specified in this engine in other parts of the world, and it even quiets down the valve train noticeably.

I’d make a friendly suggestion to spend some time reading threads, especially ones in the FAQ and how-to sections, for ideas and answers to a lot of these questions. It’ll save you time in the end.

If you think the 4.7 sucks, you're really going to hate changing oil on the 5.7. I had a 4.7 which was a breeze, even compared to the Bjowett housing and EZ drain valve setup I have now.

Toyota seemed to think going to a German auto maker setup would be a good idea....

You’re so helpful, thank you so very
Much for this bit of time and resources you spent telling me all of this.
In fewer words, you could have just as easily said…here’s what you do…
You’re so much appreciated my fellow
DIYer of cruisers.

now, back to what’s important to me at this moment…

Well…
You say this, but
It is soooo much easier to change oil/filter on my sprinters chassis RV. Fuel filter too!

I’ve owned five or six other LCs, and they were all easier than these LXs!
Why, 🤷🏻‍♂️?

Sorry, I should have said VW group setup... Most Mercedes have the filter housing on top, so if you have an extraction tool you don't even have to bend over let alone get underneath the car.

Way off topic here!

Do some digging and you’ll get an idea of how many times I’ve typed out lengthy, detailed responses to these threads. Including a thread devoted to orienting the driveshafts for greasing. A thread, with pictures. Because it isn’t as simple as “here’s what you do.”

But I guess we should just keep working for you, doing the same things we’ve already done over and over, because you need help this moment… ultimately because you didn’t make use of the knowledge base available here.

🙄….and here we go again. You must have way too much time on your hands, with all that you said.
Hey, no worries!
Got it. There are other more enthusiastic and helpful people here, than just you.
they simple attach the link, and I have great appreciation for this.
Hm, maybe you just want me to suffer. No problem.

thanks though…
And then the moderator decides to shut down this post…

well, to all those who chimed in with assistance, this is what these kinds of posts are all about, a fellow helping a fellow…or gal.
Have a great weekend!

It fits perfectly...the 208 is around 1.5-2 inches longer than it's oem replacement...more filtration area. Plenty of room with skid plates in place.

Your e-brake is probably on. :bang:

BTSOM. For any given year, oil and filter changes, and u-joint greasing are identical. Not sure how your RV matters.

Because, it matters to me, that doing maintenance on my Navion is easier than doing maintenance on these LXs. My statement, my matter. 😂
