Is anyone making soft tops these days?

Contact Trollhole on the forum.

Or Gr8ful (Abe). He had a sample of his top at the rising sun swap meet and it looked very nice.

I'd stick with Trollhole and OCD at this point. Abe (gr8ful) seems like a straight shooter, but I've bought several sets of bows and one top from his supplier in Pakistan (not Ehsan) and I had a lot of quality issues. His name is Moriarty here on Mud. He completely misrepresented what I was getting and he refused to stand by his products once I got them. He has since dropped off the radar. Again, Abe wasn't involved and was trying to assist me in any way he could after the fact.

Yep, I'm working on tops, bows, the full package. I'm still a bit out on having soft tops in stock, but I do have a couple of bow sets in hand right now. Hit me on PM & I can fill in all the details for you.

When I get a bit closer to having tops in-transit, I'll also bump my actual thread in the 40 tech section.

Best,
Abe

Alex, I just realized I completely left you hanging on your last message. I'll hit you back. Sorry for the delay. - Best Abe

I got a set of bows from Abe and an OCD top and had to do some interesting fab work on the bows but I just wrote that down to different suppliers. Happy with both.

If I was going to buy a top I would go with OCD, he sells quite a few on ebay. He is like the rainman of soft top making, never heard anyone ever complain once about the quality of a top he made. I think his sister is running the business side now.

Rainman. Now that is a way to describe him. And somewhat correct.

I'm now distributing his stuff. And trying to work with some of his past customers to get their issues resolved. Distributing his tops is easy, it's the past customers who have consumed all my time. But I'm committed to helping to get them resolved.

From what I've seen of other tops there is nothing out there better than his tops. He really is OCD.

I'll also chime in for ocd. Annie's top (pighead posted a pic) is a work of art and if troll hole has them in stock and you don't have to wait, you will most likely consider it the best money you've ever spent. It's far better quality than my first gen eshan top.

I will also be on the be wary of the paki bows. My first gen set was rough but fit and worth the minimal I paid, but i picked up a used set (not sure if eshan or abes supplier) that were poor quality and not even close to fitting

Even the OEM bows don't always fit right. Besides the early / late bow and door incompatibility, sometimes the bow or tub is tweaked and needs to be untweaked to get it to fit right. It is not always obvious if the bow is completely straight until you get them mounted.

What's Jim's handle on eBay?

It's Jim's sister I believe. This is who I bought an OCD bikini top from a couple months ago.

this wasn't a tweaking issue. the mid bow was flat out too short to reach. easily an inch off. horizontals that run from back to front had flat spots off from each other (as if the tube were twisted)

I had to do quite a bit of cutting and welding to make mine right but I went economy and got it. That being said, I do not know what Jim uses for his pattern. I'm happy. The top is over-the-top well made and the bows hold it up. I still have the ability to take my bows down for storage, which will happen soon, and stow the top until next spring.

You're a good man to do the distribution and work with past customers. I hope his tops are still around when I need my next one. Props out to you.

Jim doesn't sell on ebay anymore. That's my job. But we already have a list so until I have inventory I'm not going to sell on ebay. One day in the future I'll have inventory and ship the same day. Looking forward to that.
