Hi Guy's,

I'm after any pics and / or opinions on the performance of the OE sub woofer which other markets besides Australia get in the LH rear quarter of the 100.

Could someone post a pic of what the grille looks like on the panel - we only get a small compartment with a removeable door (like the jack panel) here.

I've done a quick search here and it appears the enclosure has only 2 smallish
4" speakers - is this correct?

Does the assembly also contain any electronics such as amp or such, or is it just the box with 2 speakers? If no amp, is there a seperate amp or does it feed from the head unit?

Thanks.

I thought about changing the subs, but the space is limited. Only option I have come up with is a small boxed 10-12 inch sub placed behind the 3rd seat. If you use some sort of jack hook up, then you can easily unplug the sub and remove it, when you need more space.

I think the amp is under the passenger seat. I have to check my FSM to make sure.

Here are some pictures.

Many thanks DMX, those pics are great.

I've just brought one on Ebay.

Hey DMX - are those subs 4"? (as suggested above)

yes, 4"

Anybody out there found a replacement sub that will fit in the factory space? I know there's a guy who makes sub-enclosures specifically to fit BMW roadsters...any such person/company out there for our 100s?

are you using the z3bass enclosure? i've been waffling about getting one for a while now...

I haven't actually put it in, and now I'm thinking about selling the M...supposed to be 100x better than the factory HK POS.

And FYI marked 2 ohm, 40 watts each.

The plastic enclosure is a nice rigid affair (as it would have to be) and behind each speaker is some sound mat / underfelt type material.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to drive them (as I don't have the OE under seat amp). Perhaps fit a small amp with high level inputs off the rear 2 channels, and perhaps some sort of cross over so it only picks up the low frequencies?

That looks great. Can't imagine how much that custom work would cost though. Any ideas?
Same here. I might just buy the replacement mid bass drivers on amazon and replace the blown stockers. I thought about putting something like a bazooka tube behind the stock grille, but am leaning towards just replacing the stockers. :grinpimp:

I'm running a stock stereo and am just replacing all of the factory speakers. Does anyone know how many watts the factory amp sends to the subs?

probably a few hundred dollars (sub only) ... there are enough pics and details that you could do it yourself.

I took my LX to two shops for an estimate of similar custom install. I heard from both $600-900. Of course that's Bay Area prices but it should be noted that each quoted me at least 10-15 hours. I think Alpine and JL offer some slime line 6's.

I have the LX 6" enclosure I could sell for cheap (with sub). If anyone is interested in upgrading from no sub or the 2 4" subs (hehe, 2 4's, haha). I ended up doing a single 10" that's located behind the mid seats. It's not sexy but it gets the job done cheaper than any custom install.
