Hello all - thanks for taking the time to check this post.

I have an 88' 62, and the wipers are giving me fits (just a slight twitch, really). When set to intermittent (blinking eye), they will work as advertised through 1 or 2 cyles, then run continuosly, even if I shut the wipers off. To stop the wipers, I have to either turn on a blinker - either direction will do - or tap the washer fluid button on the end of the wiper control. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks folks!

J

Sounds like the switch to me.

Perhaps it is time for a new (or good used) one

I don't mean to hijack but my '88 62 has an irritating electrical issue too. Intermittent power loss to just the radio and clock, no consistent situation causes this but it does happen most often within the first 5 miles after starting. It has happened the as late as driving for more than an hour.

I'm tired of resetting the clock & radio, suggestions anyone?

Josh -
The switch assembly comes out of the steering column pretty easily: have to take the steering wheel off 1st, obviously. FSM details how. From there you can check for burned contacts, cold solder joints, etc., & be able to hose it down with electrical cleaner. I had a loose solder joint on my '84 a few years ago & found it in less than 30 minutes by buzzing the multi-switch out with the FSM schematic & an ohmmeter.

Chris -
Sometimes we have to listen to Mace. I don't think the ignition switch is as serviceable as the steering column switches, but I've never had mine out. If you want the responsibility of remembering to turn the radio off, you could wire it & the clock direct to hot with an inline fuse. Finding out what's really wrong depends on how much you want to pay for an autopsy.

You have a bad connection in there. Either a broken wire or contact. Once you pull it apart you should be able to find it.

Steve-
I think Mace is spot on with Josh's issue but not mine. I've done some checking but it's hard when it's so damned intermittent. It looks like it may be a wire to the fuse box but I'm not sure. I hate wiring.

Thanks for youdr replies - I don't like tearing into wiring either, but it sounds like my options are limited...

I will add it to my list of things to do. I have prioritized my list by percentages - what ever has the highest probability of being fixed easily is at the top - the monster stuff is at the bottom...it will all be doen someday....

Thanks again!

i think you have an earth fault on the intermitant wiper relay box what does the earth look like white and black stripe wire s are, earth

about that stereo and clock problem a little while ago i read a post about the very same issue and the chap found the problem on the back of the fuse box and at tha fuseable links on the batt, by mem but you might have to double check me on this one

Can't find anything when I search. Fusible link is new but back of the fuse box is what I'm suspecting.
