did some of this yesterday...one good thing about being in a new state...so many new trails to explore

went up by Bakersfield to see what that area had to offer...

old stagecoach rd...a fun section a little later on this trail at the creek crossing...muddy descent to a rocky climb out

in the kings hill area, the climbs gets fun
12289481_10100540662959339_7258501886668816104_n.jpg

mucky, off-camber section on part of the climb turned us around...needed more time in the day...some maxtrax and/or winch could have made it through and continue on...locked f&r almost made it through, but i stopped before tearing things up much more...

love all these shady bridges...and glad there's bypasses haha

the creek climb would be a sweet trail..but signs above point the trail away from there...might have been at one point..

back in April, we took both rigs into the backcountry of the San Rafael Desert, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Canyonlands (the Maze) for 5 days and 4 nights of adventure.

some highlights include:

Lower San Rafael Rd
Chaffin Ranch/Crystal Geyser
High Spur slots
Horseshoe Canyon and the Great Gallery via Deadman's Trail
Flint Trail
journey into the Land of Standing Rocks
Standing Rock exploration
Pictograph Fork via Chimney Rock loop
exit south to Hite

Camps:

High Spur
Sunset Pass
Standing Rock
BLM Land outside of the NRA

Enjoy! (do yourself a favor and watch in HD!)

few recent updates:

InSain Fabrication Front aluminum with Baja Designs 30" Stealth and 2- BD Squadrons, Comeup 9.5 Seal Winch with Factor 55 Flatlink-E and TCT Magazine branded fairlead by Rokmen Offroad
Interco Trxus MT 35x12.5
InSain Fabrication bedrack custom height to fit the CVT Mt Rainier at an ideal height
InSain Fabrication tiregate, driver side open with Jerry can holder and camp table
InSain also modified my CBI rear bumper to eliminate the swingarm
Pelfreybilt aluminum skid plates front to back (IFS, Tranny, TCase and Gas Tank)

I was able to shave 400lbs off my prior setup with the changes and improved my approach and departure angles.

Final step will be a canvas wrap on the bed rack...

Well done, thanks for sharing and great pics

RXT mod...

discovered an issue with my rear shock length while driving on rocks in jberry813 's yard...when rear tires were tucking, the shocks were fully compressing causing my shock to be the final bump. no bueno..

with the help of 303 Shock Services and Icon, we retrofitted some RXT lower shock mounts on to the Icons to give me some more uptravel.

previously had zero shaft showing...much better now

this now got the shock cycling where it should be and the shock is no longer my final bump :woot:

not an expert by any means, but i've never seen a leaf spring bend backwards like that

not ideal, but they still work just fine... i should have gone with the next weight up, but i underestimated my constant additional weight..

still much better than the old toytec boss leaf pack i had before these deavers..

next project arrived...

Dynatrac ProRock 60
LRM_EXPORT_653772549516354_20190111_151924084.jpeg

got some OEM parts to accumulate and assemble in the coming months... hoping to do the swap in March and ready to rock for some big trips in April..

got one step closer over the weekend on the Pro Rock 60...

got the studs installed, shafts pressed together with bearing and backing plates... nice to get rid of one pile of parts sitting in my garage!

Dynatrac ProRock60 install day! went smoothly until the end when i saw my driveshaft was 1.75" too long... getting that dropped off this week to have shortened and freshened up...

for now, she's in and everything else is connected... brakes, sensors and air line.

Nice work, I figured you'd been busy just not with truck stuff. I moved back down to New Mexico and have been slow on letting folks know.

Thanks man... got the driveshaft in today and cleaned up a lot of the wiring.. moved some switches around and prepping for a switch pro. Working on getting the FJ ready too .. so many projects, not enough free time.. been enjoying exploring NM, we'll hit you up when we're down there next.. closer than ID a bit..

another productive weekend on the trucks.. got my driveshaft back from Bill's Driveshaft (ended up shortening it 2") and got that installed on Saturday.. finished wiring up the rear locker and started to relocate my front locker and compressor switches...

back in business!
LRM_EXPORT_365280028105229_20190318_061356129.jpeg

got to sort through a giant mess of wires... relocated my compressor switch from the engine bay into the truck and moved the front locker from left of the steering wheel to in front of my shifter... while in there, gutted all other wires since i'm going to a switch pro..
LRM_EXPORT_365149195026841_20190318_061145296.jpeg

new layout of awesomeness... L>R compressor, front ARB, rear ARB, ADD switch
LRM_EXPORT_365194626351772_20190318_061230727.jpeg

after getting the truck buttoned up again, turned our attention to the FJ... didn't get as far as i'd like, but we got the flush mount baja designs squadrons installed in the bumper and LP6's mounted up... the warrior bumper did not have fogs originally, so we had to cut the holes...what a pain, but glad it's done!

LRM_EXPORT_366959485767974_20190318_064155587.jpeg

on the next episode of Bob's Garage, get some power to the BD awesomeness just mounted on the FJ via S-Tech Switch System and get power back to the truck's lights via Switch Pro 9100

3 weekends left to wrap up all projects... got damn close to getting both the S-Tech in the FJ and Switch Pro in the Taco hooked up this weekend... one great thing about making these changes is purging all of the old wires that have been cluttering up the trucks..

spent my saturday afternoon cleaning out unneeded items from the FJ prepping for the S-Tech install... i have an Insane Audio headunit going in as well, so the dash remains apart for another weekend..
20190323_164924.jpg

crazy the amount of crap i pulled out of the FJ that was never being used..
20190323_183439.jpg

after cleaning out old wires and removing the old rock light distribution block, i found a spot by the secondary battery to mount the S-Tech. Overall pretty straight forward install. not as fancy as the Switch Pro, but pretty simple. run a wire inside for the switch panel, wire to a add-a-fuse to an ignition source, ground and power... there are six butt ends ready to go that you put your desired output in and clamp down. i have a blue seas fuse block still there which i use to run all the accessory grounds too...
20190324_130838.jpg

next up was getting some s*** wired up.. first up LP6.. .step one, cut off 80% of the harness
20190324_103412.jpg

step two, figure out which wire does what... black = ground, yellow = connect to marker lights to control amber backlighting, red = low output, white = high output
20190324_103428.jpg

the baja designs squadrons took a little extra effort since there was no harness made. they include plugs to connect to the lights, so i made my own harness...
20190324_122922.jpg

and the results....

squadrons with LP6 highs

can't wait to get this in the desert and see what they can really do!!!

not many pics from the taco progress... uninstalled my ditch lights. ran my switch pro wire inside and mounted the switch panel.
20190325_063719.jpg

made a mount for the switch pro and distribution block. ran the output wires to the distribution block, then ran out of daylight.
20190325_063750.jpg

next weekend will be connecting all the lights back up and adding some new lights to both rigs. hopefully install the Insane Audio in the FJ too.

weekend after will be full fluid changes on both rigs and tire rotations. FJ spark plugs.

final weekend before trip will be checking every nut and bolt...

after waiting too long to get my arb locker fixed.. finally got a little help from our friends at Nisstec and their gear guy Brian. Brian has lots of knowledge in dana axles and was willing to help me get my bonded seal replaced and ensure my gears were still setup right... while in there, we saw the seal housing spun and was pinched against the carrier bearing caps. we also noticed that the seal housing did not sit down far enough with the shims in place where they should be, so we had to do some crafty assembly to put the shims on the outside to allow the housing to sit better creating a better seal for the seal housing o-rings.. fun..

with the bonded seal dumping s*** ton of air into the housing, it of course blew out my axle seals as well.. so we had to swap out the brand new seals for some new ones while we had the axle apart...

lots of headaches caused by a failed seal from ARB, but everything is back together and going to test it out this weekend to make sure she's ready to go again...
