Yeah, I think you're gonna start seeing more of this - which is a good thing. I'll wait until something similar becomes obtainable and real world useable before I pull the 2F.

Heck... I think it would work if you used a VWAG 1.2TDI running just above idle to keep the batteries charged for the electric motor....... normally the Audi A2 with the 1.2TDI gets about 80mpg. Ofcourse there are other 2cylinder diesels that are used for the main purpose of generators.

Im just going to rehash some of the info I posted earlier today:

Not all that sure but I think an FJ55 is about 4100lbs stock. If the 2F is 700 lbs, then the FJ55 minus the 2F is about 3400lbs. A turnkey 1.9TDI engine is just under 300 lbs. Placing it into the 55 would bring the weight to about 3700lbs.
1.9TDI's are rated at 90hp/150ft-lbs at the wheels. Everyone I know that has brought their VW's to get a baseline dyno is almost at 89/90hp and 148/151ft-lbs. So with a decent 20% drivetrain loss that would mean the power at the crank would be about 108hp/180ft-lbs. With an Upsolute chip you are looking at a good 33% linear gain in horsepower and torque. So at the crank its about 143hp/239ft-lbs. Add nozzles and injections its another 30% increase making it about 185-190hp and 310-320ft-lbs reliable power at the crank.

The VW 1.9TDI powerband is very similar to the 2F so I figure gearing is about the same. Plus it revs up like a gasoline engine. Our 2002 Jetta 1.9TDI fully loaded with an automatic transmission weighed in at around 3000lbs.

I think the VW 1.9TDI would work in a pig. Including after all the mods. Even after the mods the engine remains very reliable and maintains good longivity. The noise is very low. Most people do not even know its a diesel engine. I think this engine would be perfect in a 40 series.

My 55 may not be too far from stock, but I would be it weighs damn near 6K when I load it up to take it down the road....

Personally, I want a bigger cummins.

When we had our last pig weighed it was around 4200lbs.
