Seeing as this is the most knowledgeable board in the world....

Can a NON-VVTI engine- 2004 2uz-fe 4.7L v8 engine / a340f automatic trans / 4x4 transfer case from a tundra...

Be made to run standalone, i.e. turn key and fire and run, say if a person theoretically wanted to put this in something other than a toyota. Possibly if someone dumb enough like myself would want to stuff it in an international scout II or maybe and older FJ-40.

I know you would need the CPU, engine/tranny harness, all the sensors, fuel pump, ect.... But can the wiring be rigged to be turn key?

Speed sensor is on the tcase or rear axle?

I've done TBI chevy EFI swaps over to NON efi Engines, so I know electronics an can probably figure it out.... Just not sure if its possible to do...

Thanks

:wrench:

Yes it can, it is a pretty spendy process and you had better know your wiring diagrams. It has been done by a couple people on here. Probably the first was Evan Jenkins who is a master Lexus technician. I had it done with my FJ55 and there are a couple others that are doing it now. I have some pics in my signature and I will post a couple of the youtube video links.

Thanks for the links, I've looked through posts here, and there, and everywhere on it, and never got a "straight" answer. seems like everyone is trying to put it in "factory" like.... If I had a toggle switch, and a push start button, I'd be happy....

I'll make this easier as well.... Should of mentioned the thought process before...

Front axle, would be a driver side High Pinion Ford Dana 60..... So you could use the stock tundra tcase since it drops on the driver side, and not have to reinvent the wheel with swapping trannys ect....

I had a tundra, the v8 propelled that truck like a rocket.... Don't remember the weight of the tundra, but I would think in a scout II or a FJ-40, without a top on either.... it would move pretty good...

What makes it spendy???? (other than the investment of the s*** to begin with)

Say a guy gets the engine/tranny/tcase, computer/DME, all the sensors, fuel pump, maf, Engine harness/o2 sensors, exhaust manifolds... Also has a 94 Fzj-80 to cannibalize along with a junkyard that from time to time gets newer toyota's that are "pickable"....

Whats left that I'm missing that you would need or that would be spendy? (Oh my high pinion dana 60 that I don't have)...

I can read so I guess I am ahead of the game on the wiring mess. :D

I'm in the middle of collecting parts, just got my engine together, wiring looks really easy. VSS is not nessisary. 04 is drive-by-wire, fyi. Some computers require a dongle or whatever they call them to let the engine run, security stuff, I can't for the life of me remember which application that is. In most applications you will need to buy a landcruiser oil pan, this is not an item that is easily obtained from junk yards, pretty spendy to buy new from Toyota without mad hooks.

Edit: My tundra weighs just a hair under 5K

A marine engine might be the cleanest easiest way to get a stand alone version of the Toyota V8. I'm sure somewhere in the world there is a boat manufacturer that uses the Toyota V8 in an OEM version.

Gary,

Your 45, now has a 4.7L!! Damn that thing is awesome!

I noticed that you're in Golden, I am moving to Denver to start a new job in May, I am going to have to commute to Aurora for work, are there any areas in Denver you would recommend for a 30 year old single guy?

Thanks,
Ryan.

There was. It was Malibu Boats building a boat under license for Toyota. 300HP I believe.

Im not a master at anything and my 4.7 works like a champ. You dont have to be a genius to do it, just have to know some basics.

Sounds doable, if I get to it, I'll post some pics...

if I were you .. I will found a nice rolled Tundra .. and then start .. can't be complicated if you have the complete donnor truck ..

Yea.. the 4.7 went in last winter. Great upgrade over the 1FZ. I was skeptical, but now a believer.

Golden. Great place to live. Close to everything, but just far enough away...
