Do these units put off a lot of heat inside the vehicle?

not at all and you can barely hear it, if at all.

I agree. I sleep right next to mine in the wagons when camping out and it doesn't run that much, and isn't loud enough to disturb your sleep at all. I've never noticed extra heat, usually I wish there was some.

Same story here. I have slept in the back right next to mine (Waeco) and no problem at all. I, last summer, did not notice the extra heat from the unit...the A/C worked just the same...

There are so many here that have said the fridge/freeze will become your favorite accessory and I totally agree. It took a while to actually fork over the cash. But absolutely no regrets. All my buddies still sloshing soggy everything in their ice coolers just look in awe.

My best advice: Don't delay on a fridge/freezer!

Ditto, to all. Pricey, but well worth it (unless you find a nice used one). We use it as an overflow unit at home, too...

I got the transit bag for mine and it is even quiter now!

I had a hard time justifying the $100+ for the transit bag, Is it worth it?

My Norcold 60qt has not been out of the truck since it first went in back in August. It is a must have now. At first my wife said it was frivilous but now she brags about it. I have dual batts and ULC's double tough battery cables.

I do plug it into AC at night because its right there in the garage by the left rear of the truck. I leave it set on 2 and the thermometor reads about 40. I try to keep at least a dozen beers in it for improved efficency.

He has a larger 60 qt fridge. You have a smaller 45. His fridge set at 2 will not necessarily be as cool/cold asyour fridge set at 2.

I got the 63 and at 2 it will definately freeze chit.....

Mine's an ARB although I thought they were all the same.

If I'm using it yes I pretty much run it all the time.

And don't call me buttercup...............;)

Mine's an ARB too.
You're right buttercup, the ARB, Engel, and Norcold are all reskinned, rebaded sawafuji fridges.

:D

I asked if your ran all the time because I heard from a not-so-reliable source that the big one like yours draws a significantly higher amount of power from the battery than the 40-something quart sized ones (like mine).

Are you dual-battery or cross-your-fingers while carrying jumper cables?

YES! Its insulated so it keep the cold in and the hot out, therefore draining less juice from the battery!

It does draw more than the 40 but I don't know that I would say its significant. I would have to actually go get the specs and see as I don't recall exactly what the draw is, however that being said I do know that it makes a fairly significant difference in the draw depending on wether you are pulling off an inverter using a standard plug or you have it hard wired. The later being a lower draw and thus able to run alot longer. And no I don't cross my fingers I isolate run off my deep cell and then start truck unisolate and allow deep to recharge. I thought you knew I was dual set up.

Norcold specs list, 2.5 amps (40qt) vs. 4.1 amps (60qt).
