I think what I would like is a unit that has a battery with external connections like one of these:
SeaSense Battery Box Power Station

with a connection to be able to leave it hooked up to the vehicle charging system all the time to maintain a charge and be able to quickly grab it to use away from the vehicle.

I guess I am describing a dual battery system but with the battery in a box that can be removed...

Ok... maybe that is really the best way to deal with this. It'll be larger than one of these Noco style things but will offer a wider range of functionality. I'm thinking a golf cart (small size) battery rather than a (heavy) full size battery.
 
Interesting info here. Correct me if I am wrong but watching the video I don't see any real electronic "safeguards" in the jump packs that could prevent damaging the vehicles electronics. I have heard of people using drill batteries as well to start their car in a pinch.

It's no more dangerous than using jumper cables. You mustn't allow the vehicle's alternator to charge the lithium battery but that just means you need to unplug it after the car starts.
