I am not getting any heat in my BJ40. The PO installed a new water pump but I am not sure if he replaced the thermostat. From previous posts it seems that no heat could be caused by the following:

Blocked heater core
missing upper gasket in thermostat

The temp gage comes up to a little over half at operating and the lines in to the heater box inside the cab are cold. My assumption is a blocked core. Could I test this by disconnecting the lines in the cab and bypassing the heater to complete the coolant loop? The lines should then get warm if all is working correctly?

Yes but you could also check the valves that allow the coolant to flow into the heater core work when you flick the lever.
I would have thought the inlet hose would still be warmish even if the core was blocked

if your engine temp is is normal both heaters hoses should be hot ,if the heater core is blocked the heater hoses will be the same temp , if the heater core is ok the inlet hose will be slightly hotter then the return hose but only if the enginge us warm enough

Reverse flush the heater core and valve. I had a similar problem with my BJ60. There is no "upper gasket issue" like with the FJ40/60 series.

had a shop do my new rad and tstat. they used the fj instead of the bj, no heat at all.
