Hello fellow Cruiserfreaks,

I'm actually new on this forum, so I'll first introduce myself. My name is Chris, I'm 28 yrs old and I live in The Netherlands, Europe. Recently, my girlfriend and I bought ourself a nice 1981 HJ45 'Troopy' and we allready love this car. (See attached picture of our beauty...)

Lately I've been browsing this forum very often and I must say this is the perfect learning school for a beginner Cruiserdriver like me.

What I like particularly, is that I learned that there are many original parts which are actually missing in my Cruiser. So it's a nice challenge to complete my Cruiser even more!

For example, I discovered a nice original option on many old J4 Cruisers; the glovebox 12v outlet and associated emergency light. What a characteristic part is this! I want that emergency light...!!! :D

But, unfortunately I can't discover this outlet in my glovebox. Is that right...? Are there specific models/years without these outlet, or am I blind?!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Nice troopy! The plug should be inside the glove box / pocket on the left side. It is black and looks just like a standard non-polarized US wall outlet.

My outlet was on the "wrong" side, IIRC... I have an RHD so maybe that makes sense, or maybe its a late model thing. Point being, if you don't see it, look all over the glovebox.

My socket was missing on my '79, but the rectangular cutout was there on the left side of the glove box along with the welded nuts, so I got one from a junker 40 and wired it up. The little lights are still available from Toyota for about $38. I might be wrong, but I think I remember someone sayng that the socket moved on the later models over to the left of the steering wheel.

Hoi Joof,

Welcome to the money pit, great looking cruiser.
For partsinfo go to: www.toyodiy.com great source with pictures and prices.
For your info I copied 2 pics.

Most stuff is still available at Toyota.

Good luck

Thanks for all your replies guys.

It seems my socket is missing, just like DougAustin's socket was. :(

There is a cutout so once there should have been one, but unfortunately... Also I cannot find any wires that should connect the socket. So I need to fix a connection to it...but from where?!

Stupid thing to find out that (one of) the previous owner(s) have been messing with the authentic wire structure, since I can't find any wires for the dome light either.

Wow Rudi, that ToyoDIY is really worthfull!! Thanks a lot for your tip, and eeeuh... de zonnige (eindelijk!!) groetjes terug uit Nederland.

Good looking Troopy.

Are the windows on your door stock?

I like that windwing.

Thanks! :)

Yep, as far as I know these windows on the front doors are stock. (I do appologice for this, but I assume 'stock' means they're original/authentic?! And what exactly do you mean with 'windwing'?! :$)

Welcome Joof!
Great troopy, I've never seen one while in The Netherlands.
Lots of nice 70s in Friesland but it seems like only Prados everywhere else.
Where are you?

Where are you?

Thanks! :) There are a few... last april I visited the Dutch Landcruiser Club membersday and I saw a few...but not more dan 4 or 5...

I live near Amsterdam by the way!

Not seen much in The Netherlands indeed, luckely I have one :)
after a long search on the web

Cool! And where do you live? Always interesting to meet other Troopy owners!

Thanks TroopyHJ45 and 78fj40mg, for the pics. On exactly that place is a cutout, but unfortunately the socket as well as the wiring are missing. So before I can buy a new (or used) socket and emergency light I have to figure out how to connect the stuff.

I suppose that will not be a very big problem... :)

It shares the same 12V as the cigarette lighter. The other pin is down to Earth.

Cigarette lighter you say? Haha...there's another thing that's missing in my Troopy. I don't believe there's a cutout for it... there is a small one straight above the Hazard lights knob, but it seems to be a bit small for a cigarette lighter...!?

What is the web address for the Dutch Landcruiser's Club?
Thanks! [/QUOTE/

That's www.landcruiser-club.nl

Live close to Groningen.
Are the members of the LC club mostly from the randstad or also from the north of the Netherlands

I think members live all over the country, but I'm not very sure about that. I tried to figure out for you, but I can't find anything like a members list or so.
