I just called SBC to get our new phone line hooked-up, and the lady said our area isn't covered for DSL  !! I NEED my DSL!! Here in Gilroy we have Verizon as our home phone/DSL, and it's great, but they aren't up in that area. What do I do? She said I could get cable internet, but we have DirecTv. Anyone? I don't want dial-up, I'll never go back to that. What about the people across the Blvd in "The Serranos" do they not have DLS either? They have to. Help me out NorCal people!!

Pony up for the internet cable. You don't have to subscribe to cable tv to get internet. Cable's faster, isn't it?

That answers my next question!! I was wondering if I could get Comcast internet without getting their cable also.

Over here, SBC DSL is $15/mo (phone line required) and $57/mo for Comcast Cable modem (w/o subscribing to cable tv). $43 for subscribers.

    Josh,

Check with Surewest. They have fiber Internet service. Wicked fast! and it's only $49 a month. I think a bit cheaper when you get phone service as well through them.

    Regards

    Alvaro

There is a Starband dealer in the area, kinda pricey though.

Thanks Alvaro, but not available for 95762 :frown:

I did find-out that I can get Covad. Don't know much about the company, but it's DSL and it's $39.

So you can get cable internet without cable TV.

But can I get DSL without paying 30 freaking dollars for a land line home phone?

(I pay 80 right now for cable phone, tv, and internet because it's 80 bucks and I can't get any two of those three services together cheaper than that?!

Any wireless ISPs in your area?

How close is the nearest DSL service?

I'm new to the area, so I'm not sure. I just called Covad, and it looks like I can get it for $39.95/mo. I'm cool with that price. Our new phone line will get hooked up to morrow, so they'll check. So far, by zip code, I'm out of luck.

Covad is fine - i've had them before here in san francisco and had not one problem. their pricing is always competitive. you might also check on the speakeasy.net website - they are my preferred vendor and have been good over the years.

No Surewest in El Dorado Hills. Too far away from Roseville :D
Surewest used to be Roseville Telephone. They bought out a failed dot-com era phone/cable/internet company and were allowed to expand through other parts of the greater Sacramento area.

If you have SBC phone service, that's your DSL provider. Could be that the copper in that area can't support DSL. Where I live, I have copper phone lines (and DSL) across the street, they have fiber optic -- no DSL.

Yes, you can have cable/broadband internet service, but it's not cheap.

Dude...you live up on the freakin' hills. Be happy you have indoor plumbing some of your neighbors just south of you still don't have it :D :flipoff2: :D

Where we are in Loomis, we can't get cable or DSL. About 3 months ago, we got off the 56k modem and ponyed up for a satellite dish. Unfortunately, it costs $100 per month. In a year (when our contract expires) we'll see about getting wireless, as the coverage is expanding in the Loomis/New Castle/ Penryn area. $40 per month ... I'm envious!
