OK, had my BJ60 for two weeks now and each time I start it, while waiting for the glow plugs to heat, (as told by the previous owner) wait for the "buzzing noise" to stop. I assume that this is the EDIC, or a fuel relay of some sort - it comes from the passenger footwell. there seem to be two "speeds" that it buzzes at, fast, low then off.

This morning, it did not make any buzzing, so I waited for the volt meter to come up - indicating that the glow cycle was over. It started. I just tried it again, no noise...

Is something not working - or should I not be worried about this?

Truck seems to be running fine...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

There should be no buzzing sounds. That is not normal.

Identify the orginal buzzing box. It is the edic box it may be chattering relay. It might need repair or replacement.

But definitely they should not buzz. Also edic is not supposed to be noticed.

You only wait for glow plugs to heat. The timer box for the glowplugs is in the drivers footwell side.

Ensure proper edic movement. Start the engine, and go look at the injection pump and edic actuator arm. Have some one shut it down and watch that it moves(can't remember which way) It will move to shut off pos. Then have them start the engine, watch that the arm on the ip moves in the opposite direction(over injection mode), then when the starter is let go the arm moves to the mid position(run pos)..

If that does it's thing, I dunno. But I do know the relay is working then.

Hmm... I just had a thought.....

I was installing my 2M radio, and there was some extremely shoddy wiring that a PO had done to install the CD player. One of the problems they had with the CD player was they had not hooked up the constant power, and it had no memory.

I found and fixed this problem, they had reversed the constant and switched power, so the unit was powering up each time.

Now that I think about it... when I first connected the CD player to constant power.... it made a sound like it was trying to eject a disc..... which now to me seems exactly like the sound I was hearing on keying the ignition.

Since the CD player is now hooked up properly, it does not do this each time I key on.... Feel Kinda dumb now, but I was just going by what the PO had told me!!!

I'll see if it comes back.

Thanks for verifying that there should be no sound!!!
