Nice Looking Truck vs Trees

Some of hummer guys out here have vinyl protective sides that they clip on for the trail. They look like the ones that the manufactures use on new models for public testing.

You have been an asset in my life/hobby more than once.
But I still got a laugh out of that thread:flipoff2:

The Cabella's catalog came yesterday. They have a product they sell in rolls 6 inches high by 12 feet long. Rolls on, peels off. Looks like it is pretty thick. Low Low price of $19.99.

I contacted a local distributer/installer of the 3m stuff. This was his reply:

"Yes we can apply it the whole vehicle, just let me know what you would like to have covered and I can try and put together a package for you. General a full computer cut kit will run $850 installed and it would include bumper, hood, fenders, door cups, door edges, and top of rear bumper. Call me if you have more questions?"

I guess Ill buy the x-scratch stuff and practice my wax on wax off.

No, this stuff:

I figure maybe 4 rolls - 6 rolls. I haven't measured. It's not free, but it's cheaper than a new paint job, and you can leave it on for a few months at a time.

The other stuff is cool too...if you like a camo cruiser. I saw it on a truck around the neighborhood and it actually looks pretty cool, but I think you have to have duck stickers on your back window and a Lab before they let you buy it.

I did a google search on '4x4 off road paint protection' and found enough stuff to keep me from working all day. It seems like the Cabella's stuff is a little thinner than some stuff out there (2 mil compared to 8 mil), but comparable price to other items.

Looks like Beowulf's shrink wrap is still the most practical, if not goofy, solution. Depends on whether you care about what your rig looks like 10% of the time on the trail or 90% of the time everywhere else.

Don't take the supportive comments the wrong way B, I still would have laughed at you had I been there, but I might have been secretly envious of the results. :)

I have used the paint on peel off stuff years ago, and it worked a charm. Could not tell you how much it cost because i got it for free, very easy to use.

Hey Silverscout, that Scratch-X stuff works great! This might hurt at first but check out the results. Do you recognize the truck?

Please tell me that the before and after pictures involve two different trucks? I choose to live in denile.

Haha, It's not as bad as it looks. But it did take some work to get it to the "after" picture. I have a little bit left of that Scratch-X stuff left (used it all on your truck  ), I'll demonstrate it for you next time. ;)

Scott_FZJ80 (IIRC, that's his tag here) from Chicago has the magnetic body sheets that he puts on before he wheels. He used these at the Badlands lat year and it worked great.

He doesn't seem to log on much, but I do see him on the MUD every once in awhile.

You might want to contact him.

Best.

Are you serious?? Those are truly the before and after pix and you're not just yanking my chain? Send those pix to Scratch-X and get a free years supply of this stuff!!

I want my money back!

Actually it came out great. The day I brought the LX home my neighbors commented on what a well maintained vehicle I purchased. Obviously I’ll have to show them the incriminating evidence. ;)

Where’d you get it from? Does it take out swirls?

There is stuff we use on race cars that is helicopter tape. It was designed for the military and used on the blades of a helicopter to protect it.

Similar concept.... probably the same stuff. Protects the front of the car from rocks and tire debris. It typically is applied and NOT taken off. It is clear and very difficult to notice it is there. I believe either 3M or Dupont makes it.

I assume this is the stuff you are referring to:

http://aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/8674.php

I wouldn't purchase it from Spruce, there are less expensive places out there.

It works well on aircraft/race cars and anything else that you don't want chipped or ?? The stuff can be had in many different thicknesses in roll or sheet form. If you have glass headlights the stuff is great to prevent serious damage. After an incident with a rolloff trash truck I put it on my headlights.

I saw Sctach X at Autozone and Ace, Sears has something similar in an almost identical bottle.

Google 'scratch x'. It is the Maguiars scratch x (it's spelled wierd) and they have a decent web site explaining how it works and how to use it.

I got some of the same stuff from a company that makes them to cover LCD screens (ipod). I gotta give it to them, it's tough s***.
