Got it registered and she got to drive it once, wish she could've drove it more before the surgery, but the weather has been wacky in Eastern NC and it's been a bear to have to run outside and cover it with the tarp so, I cleaned the garage best I could and squeezed it in to get it ready for the repair.
I'm hoping the windshield guy will be here tomorrow.
Here's how it looks so far.
The drivers side has a little surface rust on the lower section and a little heavier section up top but, not so bad. Screws on the right
The passenger side is pretty much rust free but good lord the screws they used were ginormous, the holes were at least 3/16 and one of them was an oblong 1/4". Screws on the left.

Question. What have you guys done when it comes to such large holes?
Do they make larger plastic rivets?

A couple of alternatives are listed in this thread

I had an 04 (V8, Limited, 4wd) 4Runner earmarked for my son. He countered with taking my 06 LX, my 07 Z06 Corvette, or a new Raptor. Our compromise was a used 00 LC. What can you expect from a kid that grew up in a built 94 LC though…
That's awesome man. My oldest son is only 3 but I am hoping to have a similar conversation with him if he turns out to be a good young man! I have an 08 Z06 and an 00 LX as well - seems like we both have a thing for the most reliable and unreliable V8s ever made lol.

Thanks for the link.
I was thinking about using rivnuts since the holes have been compromised.
I saw a thread where they actually welded up the holes and use 4Runner trim instead of the factory trim, not sure how I feel about that though.

Oh man that's the truth haha. I think he's going to grow up to be a fine young man :)
Man, I'd loooove a C6 Z06, my favorite body style Corvette and the sounds a naturally aspirated 427, smiles for miles.

When he comes tomorrow, I will update with more pics and a better idea on the direction I am going to go.

Thanks again guys, I appreciate the info and responces
Happy 4th

They came today to remove the windshield and unfortunately cracked it trying to push the line through the adhesive. I'm honestly shocked at how strong that stuff, this fella was linebacker big and he was shaking trying to be as careful as possible. It happens. They also offered to do the repair as well which was a nice surprise. Good to have a plan B in case this can of worms is more than I can handle. But honestly, it looks more like surface rust than anything. I'll use a light abrasive brush to remove the majority and some fine paper to hit the rest.
First I need to remove this adhesive, holy smokes it tough. I'm heading to the hardware store to get a plastic scraper to see if it helps.
Everyone loves pictures :)

Man, it's been too long with no info.
Too much going on and not enough time in a day.
A little progress though.
I'm going to go out tomorrow and do a little sanding with a small die grinder and then a little touch up with some primer and hopefully get it painted.
It's crazy how the primer makes every imperfection more noticeable haha, after some touch up tomorrow hopefully it'll be ready

It's not perfect by any means but, I'm happy with it. And the majority will be covered by the windshield and trim.
I do have some blending to do in a couple of spots with some 2000 grit, hopefully it'll blend well.

Great looking repair, you got that just in time. Some of those spots were looking pretty thin
Thanks, I appreciate it
And you are correct, there was a couple of areas that were scary thin. Glad I did this in the end. Hoping to get some years out of this bad boy.
I know my daughter has been eager to get behind the wheel.
Yesterday my wife and I spent about 4 hours cleaning it. Still kind of boggled about how dirty it was.
My daughter and I are getting a list of parts together for what needs to be refreshed and what needs to be replaced and of course what she wants haha

If the windshield is still out, brush/spray on some bed liner type coating as an extra layer of durability...

I put 4/5 coats of primer 4 coats of paint and 5 coats of clear. Though that is a good idea for some extra reassurance. They'll be here at 8am.

beautiful color, my first choice and what i'm currently searching for
Thank You, I'm pretty fond of it myself :)

Well, install went ok, I guess. I'll be back with a couple of pictures.
I test fit the rivets and they seemed to fit but they did not. Passenger side none worked out and drivers' side only the top two worked out.
What they wanted to do was an absolute NO GO.

Random question. Would it be ridiculous if I found and used larger plastic rivets in the holes that were compromised?
I know they will be covered and out of sight, but I would really like to try to stick with as OE as possible and not use screws.

Finally found some larger automotive plastic rivets. I'll be giving them a try today.

Also, I'll be putting a new sunroof seal on and while the sunroof is out I'll be going through the drains again to make sure they are all clear and free flowing, especially the rears, I had no idea there was rear drains haha.

Well, those larger automotive plastic rivets did not work. Looks like I'll be going with aluminum rivets. I guess it's better than screws.

This is my next endeavor, this sunroof seal was pain but I noticed the plastic trim was a little off and I'm not sure what to do. Got the seal on but noticed the plastic trim had a big enough seam to let water in as you can see through to the other side pretty obviously.
I was going to use some marine grade caulking (black 5200) and possibly a cover plate to help divert the water.
Has anyone else run into this? If so what did you do to resolve it?
