I just purchased a 1975 FJ40, and the previous owner, like me, has little to no knowledge about automotive maintenance. Back to the question, the previous owner stated that I needed to add a lead additive each time I fuel up, or else, he did not know. The guy at local shop thought that it may have to do with the lead additive coating the valves and corresponding brass fitings that go along with it.

Does this sound like it has any merit to it?

I looked under the hood, and believe the engine was just an F, not a 2F, but I could be mistaken.
Would that make a difference?

74 FJ40 1F- I am running 87 octane unleaded. I also believe in 75 a cataletic coverter was stock on all vehicles sold in the USA?
Anyone back me up on this? Just going on shop talk here, no proof.
Unleaded should be fine!!

Will post pic, probably tomorrow, and I will look to see what engine type it is. That way, I can post a picture, and ask "what the hell is that, and what does it do, but most importantly, how much will it cost to fix."
