Hello, I have been a member for a while but havent really been active... anyways i thought i would post some pics of my truck and see if i can get some help with a tie rod end. Its a 76 fj40 with a 350, 4 speed toyota trans and 3 speed toyota t-case. Im replacing all the tie rod ends and i have found all of them except the drivers side outer....it has a power steering conversion that was done long before i got it and the previous owner was clueless. I know nothing about it, i have tried to find out what the power steering box is from by calling gm,toyota, and every parts store i know of and giving them the number on it(26000525). Anyways i have some pictures of it maybe one of you will recognize it. Oh yeah it has a steering ratio of about 2.5 to 1 and an awful turning radius for such a short wheel base. The tie rod end pictured is the one i need to replace. I have attached the pictures because im not sure how to post them. ill make another post with more pictures of the truck and steering setup

You have a Saginaw power steering conversion, that also appears to have a 2" dropped pitman arm which is commonly sold for lifted Jeeps.

Tell your auto parts store that you need the drag link end from a 1979 CJ-7 that attaches to the pitman arm on the power steering gear.

Something to think about and check is the tapers in the arms vs. ends. The po for mine did the conversion and although it was a good job the tapers on the pitman and the over under were different than the ends. I tried new ends in the beginning and then some shims. Nothing worked for long. It gets real squirly with loose ends. I had to up grade and retaper my arms. Now it handles great.
just my $.02

yeah I have ordered all the TRE's and ill see if it still has slop after that....I know at least one of them was completely toast....there was a very loud clunk accompanied by the entire vehicle lurching when turning at slow speeds and you could see the arm moving around if you were outside the vehicle.

I must have misunderstood.....I ordered the tie rod end for the 79 cj-7 and it does not fit. Any ideas on which tie rod end will fit it? the one on the left is the cj-7 one, the one on the right is my old one.

The cj-7 end is much thicker on the part that goes through the power steering arm. (the horrizontal part) The other part (the vertical one) does fit.
