Hello everyone, thought i would share my Landcruiser experience with you guys. My father bought my FZJ80 in August of 94' brand spanking new. $48,500 fully loaded, lockers and all. My dad was always a hardcore offroader and hunter. He has had many fourwheel drive vehicles in his 72 years and quite a few Landcruisers.

From day one the 80 was wheeled hard. The stock tires were removed right away and replaced with 285 BFG MT's. It was primarily used as a hunting-expedition vehicle. Today there are only 92,000 miles on the odometer, but they have been rough ones.

Things Fixed or Replaced:
  • By 40,000 miles the OEM shocks had to be replaced
  • Power steering pump replaced at 50,000
  • Gone through 2 sets of wheel bearings
  • Exhaust has been fixed at least 5 times due to being smashed
  • Blown head gasket at 88,000 (my fault extreme offroad abuse)
  • Front axle needs rebuilt (clicking put nothing major)
When you consider the abuse this truck has been through it has been extremley reliable. Even though we treated the truck rough, it has had exceptional service. Fluids have always been changed on time, Diff fluid gets changed about 5 times a year due to extreme mud and water use. All work has been done by our local toyota dealership.

My dad was nice enough to give me his favorite truck of all time as a graduation gift from college a few years ago. I have slowly began the building process.
  • J springs
  • custom bumpers
  • custom tire swing-away
  • 315's
I love my 80 and plan on keeping her for a long time. :)

Pretty good lookin rig! Welcome! What kinda tires are you running? Looks lke BFG M/Ts? Also can you post a pic of your rear tire carrier?

The tire are indeed BFG MT's. The Swing-Away is really simple design nothing special, but it works.

Not a lot of 80s were wheeled from day one! Welcome!

Good looking rig. Its the right color and I like those custom bumpers. :flipoff2:

I am assuming thats your dads Hummer H1. Nice rig and welcome you are so lucky to have 80 in your family since new! congrats :flipoff2:

94 is an excellent year bested only by 93. :D Is that a Remington 700 leaning against the front tire?

Nice...

Nice ride...takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' :grinpimp:

From your handle and partial license plate, I'm guessing you're in WV.

Where abouts was the ridge-top photo (w/dog) taken?

And who is your local toyota dealership? Good mechanics?

I'm eventually gonna relocate to south/central WV, and have been wondering about availability of good Cruiser mechanics way out in the boonies.

Thanks, and welcome.

:)

Welcome :flipoff2:

Nice lookin trucks, I bet you have alot of fun with an 80 and an H1:D

Post some cool wheelin pics for us:cheers:

Nice looking rig, welcome to Mud 304!

Welcome to mud. What does your dad drive now?
My father is kind of a fourwheel drive freak. His current vehicles include: 2003 Mercedes Benz G-wagon (factory locked of course), 2004 100 series (daily driver), 2006 Dodge Power Wagon (Factory Lockers), and a 2000 Toyota Tacoma reg cab with a mild OME heavy duty lift an 33's.

The Hummer belongs to a good friend of mine. You can see all of our videos by just checking out Youtube. Search under Charleston Traction Company.

The G-wagon is no 80 series from a reliability standpoint, but it does have some advantages. Very good size dimensions for fourwheeling, excellent locker system, and unique German flare.

The Power Wagon is a fantastic offroad vehicle right out of the box: 12,000 pound winch, factory lockers, 33" tires, sway-bar disconnect, factory 2" lift, and 4.56 gears. Way too big for some trails but we make it fit.

I love the 04 cruiser but i would never change it for an 80, not a big fan of IFS, but it is the vehicle we choose when traveling across country.:)

The photo was shot in Slaughters Creek, WV; about 20 minutes out side of Charleston.

As for Mechanics; I have one specific guy do all my work now. He is not associated with Toyota at all. It seems like every time i go to a toyota dealership i just get blank stares. I am starting to do alot of work myself, but for major jobs i leave it to my buddy Joe.

Dealerships are good for routine service and such; but my dealership does'nt even know what a Birfield joint is.

Thanks Everyone

Thanks for having me aboard. Here are a few more pics of our toys.:)
