Hi guys,
I finally own one of my grail cars. Yes laugh all you want but for me the FJ80 is an amazing vehicle to own. So far my family is not on board with it and have asked me to use it as a personal vehicle and use my daily when Im with them. Whatever, eventually they'll come around---i hope.
Ownership started a bit shaky, after driving it home about 100miles with no issues it wouldnt start the next day. Towed it to the shop and after a new coil and startor plus brakes the honeymoon resumed.
Thanks to this Forum I have learned I was duped by the mechanics and now my tach doesnt work. THIS THE REASON OF THE THREAD BTW. I remember seeing a thread about this somewhere (new startor tach dead). If anyone out there can point me in the right direction
The manager at the shop said that I have no proof it was working when the car was brought in so is up to me.
Also, thanks to the post covering high idle and the brass screw on top of the EFI, it saved me $150 (what the shop wanted to fix). Couple of turns clock wise and its prefect.
Hopefully I can stop the fixing and start the modding!
Anyway thanks in advance and here she is:

cool looking exterior color scheme going on.
preventative maintenance is #1 priority before modding :)

Hopefully you won't need to do much besides all the fluids and other assorted small stuff. Not sure how the front axle is looking unless you know it was done recently.

Good luck ! :)

That NEEDS to be next bc there is some fluid leaking (slow leak). I just wish I could do the OME and new rims and tires. Seems that as soon as I'm close $ wise it goes elsewhere. :bang:
That and the exhaust leak :bang::bang::bang:
I did the exterior, it's Monstaliner OD green. The car was sand and brown when I got it. I may post pics, it was an easy weekend project.

B3A5T - I like the new color. Good luck with PM

New pics of my 33s ! Thanks for the help guys.
Finally the wheel wells look filled, no more skinny look.

Mmm... might want to take off the damage multipliers there. The brush guard, nerf bars and tail light covers are all cosmetic - and cause more damage than they prevent when bumped.

I'm not sure if it's the camera or a custom mpaint job - it kind of looks like someone durablacked over the top of the stock flares and bumper plastics. I'm not quite placing the main truck's color either.

Congrats on the find and welcome! :flipoff2:

Thanks for the advice, thought about getting rid of all that metal but not sure yet. Kinda like it. As far as the color, its not stock. Her original color was champagne with burgundy lower. Hated it bc the paint was turning pink! So I decided to Monstaline it OD green and Herculine the bottom. No more worries about scratches. Hers some pics, first: when I found her. Second: prep work for paint. 3rd pic today...work in progress.

I can understand liking having that 'look' that the metal gives. However, don't count on any of those actually protecting the vehicle.

Passers by on the street won't know the difference between those cosmetic nerf bar step things and real sliders - but you will the first time you go over a shelf on the nerf bars and get a few thousand $$$$ in damage to your rockers.

Same with the cosmetic brush guard. Bump a deer with that and it will bend & twist and cause more damage than the deer alone could have.

The grill/guards for the rear tail lights look neat - but examine how they attach. They usually mount to the two smallest of the three screws that hold the corner light on. Brush more than a twig with those from front to back and they'll act like a big can opener and pop parts of your marker lens out all over the trail. And the way they sit, they suck branches/twigs/saplings in and hold them.

So - yeah, I understand the 'look' - just keep in mind that you're strutting cosmetic 'protection' that generally results in more harm than good when put to the test.

What he said, it's gospel. The front "brush guard" will do nothing to protect the front and will create a ton of damage to the hood, grill, fenders, and lights if you bump into almost anything. It will bend right back over on itself and crunch your truck. Without it you may need a new grill and headlight after a little bump, with it you will be looking at $2-3K at the body shop. The tail light guards will crush in the side of the rear quarter panel instead of just cracking a tail light. But, hey, you decide:grinpimp:

X3 on ditching all the damge multipliers, like the stencil work on the hatch, looks pretty sweet:)

About the "Damage Multipliers"

Man! I know its true but ALL of you are JINXING me!

I'll take them off this weekend and see how it looks. So far the car is used for soccer and lacrosse for my kids and to go to the lake. No off road expeditions.....yet.

I know its good advice, thanks. Heck! taking all that weight off may improve my MPGs J/K

For now:
