Hi, i'm new to this board and have found a lot of very informative information. I have a question regarding the 4WD system which I haven't seem to have a clear answer to in all of the short searching I've done so far. I have a 4H switch that when I depress, the 4WD light comes on. With the switch depressed, you can see the "OFF" decal appear on top of the switch. Does this mean that that the 4WD system is dissengaged? or is something wrong? I'd assume by the functionality of the rest of the car that a light only comes on when something is on or is wrong. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and hope to hear from anybody soon~ My car came from Japan and there was no owner's manual(not that it would help me since I can't read japanese)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The 4H switch when depressed with the front hubs locked engages 4wd in high range or normal drive.Thats when the light comes on on the dash.

To engage 4wd in low range ,you just move the transfer lever to 4L with hubs locked of course. In this case the 4H switch need not be depressed.

I guess it is a kind of a warning ,as being a part time 4wd vehicle it should not be driven on the road in 4wd.
The 4wd transmission needs some slippage to avoid binding.

So what ur saying is that with the switch in(pressed)...the light is suppost to come on and when it's switch out(depressed) the light should go out? What's actually happening with my car is the opposite of that.

My guess would be that the vacuum hoses that actuate 4hi are switched at the solenoids (if that's the correct term) or at the tcase. That or the wiring to the solenoids has been reversed.

correct.light should go off with the switch out.light will come on with switch in even if the hubs are not locked.

Thanks for all your help. I've elected to swap the vacuum hose line instead of the connection because the way it is set up(the connector colours match the connection body(vsv)). The light now only comes on when the switch is IN and vise versa.
